With the arrival of Fear Street: Prom Queen, we wanted to take a look at the horror genre, and explore Netflix’s rather limited list of titles. Here are our picks of the top 10 slasher movies and series streaming on Netflix in 2025!
Netflix has a pretty solid catalog of slasher series and movies. Whether it’s continuations of beloved slasher franchises like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, adaptations of best-selling novels, or genre movies with comedic spins, there’s a solid range to choose from. In this list, we talk you through 10 of the finest Netflix has to offer, all of them streaming worldwide.

- Release Date: February 18, 2022
- Director: David Blue Garcia
- Cast: John Larroquette, Alice Krige, Nell Hudson
- Language: English

Whenever slashers come to mind, seminal work The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) nears the top of the list. Directed by Tobe Hooper. the movie is a titan of its genre, spawning numerous sequels over the years. One such movie is Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022), which is set almost 50 years after the original film. Whether it falls into official canon is debatable — it falls into plenty of continuity errors taking into account the other movies — so let’s call it a ‘legacy’ sequel. The movie follows a new group of teens, each terrorised by an older, but no less dangerous, Leatherface. It also marks the return of Marilyn Burns as Sally Hardesty, the sole survivor from the original film. Now, Sally’s out for revenge.

Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre film was panned by critics upon release. It’s not a great movie by any means, but if you’re seeking a fun slasher — especially if you’re a fan of the franchise — you might get something out of it.

Most slasher movies feature a serial killer who hides their identity behind some sort of mask — look no further than Leatherface. But There’s Someone Inside Your House does things a little differently. Rather than wearing a creepy mask, the killer wears the face of their victims.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Stephanie Perkins, the movie follows college student, Makani, who moves from Hawaii to a small town in Nebraska to live with her grandmother. However, before settling in, she and her newfound friends find themselves entangled in a web of murders. Makani herself quickly becomes the killer’s next target. Created by the killer team of Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) and James Wan (The Conjuring), this movie is intense, savage and filled with suspense.

2017’s The Babysitter blends comedy, thriller, horror, and slasher elements. Starring Samara Weaving as the titular babysitter. Sent to look after 12-year-old Cole, who has an obvious crush on her, he must put aside his juvenile feelings when he learns that she’s a member of a murderous satanic cult of teenagers.
Cole soon learns that he’s to be her first blood sacrifice, and so the film becomes a fight for him to survive the night. After high ratings, The Babysitter merited a sequel movie, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, in 2020. If you love a bit of horror with slasher elements and a sprinkle of comedy, look no further! There continues to be rumors about a third entry, too, although whether that’ll ever see the light of day remains another story.

The clue is in the name. Slasher isn’t for the squeamish! Created by Aaron Martin, each season follows a different masked killer, in a different setting, each with a different motive for killing. Through suspenseful, violent, and scary episodes, the series has constant twists and turns, untangling the killer’s motivation through a web of secrets.
Slasher is for you if you love gruesome and violent movies and series like American Horror Story and Saw. Sadly, Netflix never got the newer seasons, Flesh & Blood and Ripper, which stream on Shudder, but Netflix is still home to the first three seasons.

Before we get onto the requisite Fear Street trilogy, let’s weigh in on Prom Queen — the latest chilling tale in the saga. Following on from the immensely popular 2021 trilogy, Prom Queen revisits fictional town of Shadyside for the high school class of ‘88, where the election for Prom Queen gets bloody. When the big night arrives, candidates begin to go missing one-by-one. Before long, it’s a fight for survival when a masked killer with an axe appears to put candidates on the chopping block. The movie is a fun, worthy instalment in the franchise — but quite easily falls short when compared to the main trilogy. You can check out our review here.

This brings us onto the Fear Street movies, which are perhaps the most popular option for slashers on Netflix. Based on the novels by seminal horror writer R.L. Stine, the film is set in the fictional town of Shadyside, better known as the murder capital of the United States. There, a group of teens uncover an age-old mystery behind countless massacres, but their ardent investigations end up putting targets on their backs. The film is inspired by movies from the era it covers, while still having the feel of a modern, contemporary horror.

- Release Date: July 9, 2021
- Director: Leigh Janiak
- Cast: Olivia Scott Welch, Gillian Jacobs, Chiara Aurelia
- Language: English
- Runtime: 109 min

The second in the Fear Street trilogy, this one turns to more summer camp horror vibes. It’s arguably even more slasher-like than the first movie. Told mostly as a flashback from C. Berman, the movie sets the scene in Camp Nightwing, Shadyside, where a fun summer camp turns into a nightmare when an axe-wielding killer terrorizes them. It’s dark and claustrophobic, taking place in dense woods, cabins and caves — all the places you’d expect to see in a good slasher.
The movie currently boasts an excellent 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fear Street Part Three: 1666

- Release Date: July 16, 2021
- Director: Leigh Janiak
- Cast: Kiana Madeira, Ashley Zukerman, Gillian Jacobs
- Language: English
- Runtime: 112 min

Fear Street Part Three: 1666 is my personal favourite of the trilogy, but honestly, the three can be ranked in any order. It wraps up the saga with a thrilling conclusion, breaking the curse once and for all. Harkening back to colonial times, to a time before the town became Shadyside, where Deena Johnson experiences the life of accused witch Sarah Fier through a vision. The movie retains plenty of classic slasher tropes, from intense killing sequences, to a typical slasher climax, and the archetypal ‘final girl’ ending. The 2021 trilogy remains among Netflix’s finest.
