As Olivier Marchal released his thriller Squad 36 late last Winter, he was quietly gearing up for the production of season 2 of his thriller Blood Coast (in French, Pax Massilia). Here is an updated rundown on the return of the high-octane thriller.
After its release in December of 2023, the first season of Blood Coast has gathered 5.6 million views in its first 4 days of release, which made it one of the best European series launches at the time, way beyond other new French series. On the set of the talk show C Médiatique, creator, co-writer, and director Olivier Marchal would sternly confirm that a season 2 was “being written, shot in [December of 2024], and released in 2025”. Despite this update, Netflix France was not officially confirming a return, stating that Marchal was deep into production of Squad 36 and an eventual production timetable was up in the air; the show was not listed last January as part of the returning French shows within the Next On Netflix event. All of this seems far behind, as various local media have reported the shoot of the second season earlier this year.
When will Blood Coast season 2 be released on Netflix?
On November 12th, Netflix confirmed the global release of the second season on December 9th, 2025. As of early September, season 2 of Blood Coast was listed among the French shows being released before the end of 2025; the other being the adventure show Nero the Assassin. The sophomore season will run for 6 episodes. The first teaser trailer was also released, revealing new shots of the main and supporting characters set to IAM‘s classic 1997 track, Demain, C’est Loin. You can find it below.
Who is coming back for season 2 of Blood Coast?
Star Tewfik Jallab, who has enjoyed success in another action series, Canal+ original Paris Has Fallen, is confirmed to come back for season 2 as Lyès Benamar after a supporting role in Squad 36. Supporting cast members Jeanne Goursaud, Idir Azougli, Olivier Barthélémy, Lani Sogoyou, and Samir Boitard are also confirmed to star this season. On the writing front, Olivier Marchal will be surrounded by two cowriters: Edgar Marie (who was there for season 1) and Olivier Dujols, a veteran screenwriter who has had multiple credits on hit shows Falco for TF1 and The Bureau, and co-created espionage show Totems for Prime Video. Finally, on the directing front, Olivier Marchal will cede an unspecified number of episodes to director Nicolas Guicheteau (Spiral, B.R.I.)
Where was Blood Coast season 2 produced?
Unsurprisingly, Olivier Marchal and his crew shot the new season, again, on location around Marseille, where the story is set. The particular dates are not known, but cameras were rolling in the winter of 2025, with massive scenes featuring extras being shot last March and April, according to various local reports. The shoot wrapped in late spring of 2025.
Alongside the announcement, Netflix also released a batch of fresh set photos for the upcoming season. You can find some of them below.
Blood Coast Season 3 Already In The Works
La Provence reports that Netflix is already looking ahead to a third season of Pax Massilia. The outlet notes that creator Olivier Marchal, a former police inspector turned filmmaker, has begun writing season 3 even as season 2 gears up for release. The momentum comes from the show’s remarkable performance in late 2023, when season 1 ranked in Netflix’s global top 10 for three consecutive weeks across 83 territories, drawing more than 10 million views.
