Brendan Fraser, who many people know for his iconic role as Rick O’Connell in 1999’sThe Mummy and its two sequels, finally spoke about the recent reports that he was officially in talks to return for a fourth film with former co-star Rachel Weisz.
Fraser talked with Radio Times magazine, sharing an encouraging yet hesitant message about the reports as he said, “My lips are sealed! I’m hopeful to have good news soon because I know how popular the films were.”
He went on, seeming to support rumors that there are ongoing talks about a new film, as told the publication, “People say ‘I grew up watching that movie and now I’ve got kids…’ Let’s all keep our fingers crossed and light a candle.”
Of course, the original The Mummy franchise could potentially return without its original stars, but many fans are eager to see Fraser reprise his role.
Directly addressing his potential involvement, Fraser said, “Would I like to? Absolutely.”
“I’ve always said I like the idea and I always will,” the Rental Family actor said, before emphasizing that he isn’t the person who will make the final decision to greenlight the film. “It’s just… Well, it’s not up to me to pull that trigger!”

Fans of The Mummy franchise starring Fraser will have to patiently wait for news about a potential fourth film, following the previous two sequels, 2001’s The Mummy Returns and 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
A report from Deadline back in November stated that both Fraser and Weisz, who played the character Evelyn Carnahan in the first and second films, were in discussions to come back for a new sequel.
Universal Pictures declined to comment on the story, while sources claimed that Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from Radio Silence Productions were set to direct from a script by David Coggeshall, who wrote for Scream: The TV Series and films like The Family Plan.
