Bring your best blooms to this free annual rose celebration in Calgary

15 July 20253 Mins Read

Rose lovers, rejoice: the 52nd annual Calgary Rose Show is coming to the Scandinavian Centre this weekend in Northwest Calgary.

The annual event presented by the Calgary Rose Society will give local gardeners the opportunity to showcase their favourite flowers. Participants are encouraged to bring their best blooms along with them for this free event that is bound to tickle the senses.

What to expect

The rose show has been going on strong for 52 years, so you know there will be some experienced gardeners vying for the most beautiful bloom.

Attendees can also join in on the fun by casting their vote in the most fragrant rose competition. With plenty of diverse rose varieties available to grow in Calgary, you can spend the entire afternoon enjoying their different scents and getting some inspiration from other green thumbs and rose breeders.

Want to join in on the competition? Participation in the rose show is open to amateur gardeners, but you’ll need to be a Calgary Rose Society member to take home the top trophy. For the low price of $25, you can purchase a membership and submit your home-grown rose for consideration by the society’s scrupulous judges.

While the competition is open to gardeners of all ages and experience levels, there are a few rules. All roses must be grown outside by participants and planted before June 15, 2025. As for how you choose to display and showcase your hard work, that’s open to artistic interpretation.

As the society’s former president and exhibitor Brian Rottenfusser points out, “You cannot win if you do not enter. Bring your best blooms. If they look good to you, they will likely look good to our judges.” That means gardeners of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to join in on the fun!

Share your love for these fragrant beauties with other horticultural enthusiasts and celebrate this year’s theme, “Salute to Canada,” with an assortment of roses specifically tailored to thrive here in the Great White North.

This event is open to all Rose Society members, friends, family and members of the public. Check out the schedule below for more information.
