Bruce Beresford’s Australian Drama ‘The Travellers’ Heading to Netflix US in April

The “Pay-1” pipeline between Sony Pictures and Netflix continues to deliver. Following its emotional theatrical run late last year, the Australian homecoming drama The Travellers is officially slated to make its streaming debut on Netflix US this April.

While an exact release date in April 2026 is still TBD (because of a change Netflix has made behind the scenes, making it harder to fetch release dates), the film is expected to be one of the headline additions to the Netflix “Pay-1” library for the month. We expect to learn the exact date in the coming days or weeks, so stay tuned to this post or to our complete April 2026 list. This addition only applies to Netflix US and a handful of other regions around the world as the global Sony deal doesn’t kick in until 2027.

The arrival of The Travellers marks another major addition to the Netflix library under the current Sony Pictures output deal. Netflix has been a primary beneficiary of Sony’s diverse 2025/2026 theatrical slate. Subscribers have recently been treated to a steady stream of Sony-licensed content, including the historical thriller Nuremberg (starring Russell Crowe), the action-packed Sisu: Road to Revenge, and the blockbuster horror sequel 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, due out at the end of March.  As always, the movie will be available on Netflix for 18 months and will be blocked for those on the advertising tier.

From the Australian Outback to the Global Screen

Written and directed by Academy Award nominee Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy, Breaker Morant), the film had its initial theatrical release on October 9, 2025. Produced by Ambience Entertainment and filmed across the stunning landscapes of Western Australia—from Fremantle to the Swan Valley—the movie was a centerpiece of the Australian spring cinema season before being picked up for international distribution by Sony Pictures Releasing International.

The film stars Luke Bracey (Holidate) as Stephen Seary, a successful opera stage designer whose high-flying European life is interrupted by a terminal diagnosis for his mother. Returning to his dusty hometown, he finds his world-weary father (the legendary Bryan Brown) and his grounded sister (Susie Porter) living a life he no longer recognizes.

Because of its limited release, reviews for the flick aren’t widely available, though it currently has a 5.3/10 on IMDb. The Guardian gave the movie a 2/5 star rating, saying the movie was dialogue-heavy and featured some good performances.

The Cast of ‘The Travellers’

  • Luke Bracey as Stephen
  • Bryan Brown as Fred
  • Susie Porter as Nikki
  • Nicholas Hammond as Charles Kennelworth
  • Celia Massingham as Jenny
