Bruce Springsteen Offers Rare Words of Support for Donald Trump After D.C. Shooting

27 April 20262 Mins Read

Rock legend BruceSpringsteen kicked off his Sunday night concert in Austin with a ”prayer of thanks” for DonaldTrump.

The singer-songwriter is a well-known critic of the president, but put their rivalry aside during his most recent show. He shared gratitude that Trump was safe after the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting on April 25.

In a video circulating on social media, Springsteen told the crowd, “We begin tonight with a prayer for our men and women in service overseas, we pray for their safe return.”

The “Dancing in the Dark” singer continued, “We also send out a prayer of thanks that our president, nor anyone in the administration, nor anyone attending, was injured at last night’s incident at the [White House] press correspondents’ dinner.”

The 75-year-old singer’s disapproval of the current administration did not prevent him from condemning the recent shooting.

“We can disagree. We can be critical of those in power, and we can peacefully fight for our beliefs. But there is no place in any way, shape, or form for political violence of any kind in our beloved United States.”

This isn’t the first time the “Born to Run” singer has mentioned Trump at a concert.

At Springsteen’s 2025 European tour launch, he told his audience, “In my home, the America I love, the America I’ve written about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration.”

The pair’s long-running feud dates to 2012, before Trump entered politics.

The current president took to X after Springsteen attended a “get‑out‑the‑vote” rally for then-President BarackObama.

“Why would Ohio listen to Bruce Springsteen reading his lines? Be careful or I will go to Ohio and @MittRomney will win it,” he wrote.

Just months before the 2016 election, the “Born in the U.S.A.” singer called Trump a “moron” in RollingStone, adding that he is “a tragedy for our democracy.”

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are currently on the ‘Land of Hope and Dreams’ tour.
