If there’s anything the 2025 MLB playoffs have taught us, it’s that anything can happen. When it comes to October baseball, surprises are part of the game. For Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper, the team’s run for a World Series championship now includes a little extra “chaos” at home.
Harper and his wife Kayla Harper, already parents to three children, just added a fourth child to their home team. Harper shared the family’s exciting news ahead of Game 1 of the Phillies vs. Dodgers National League Division Series.
“Decided to add more chaos to Red October—
Hayes Three Harper,” the Harpers captioned their social media post announcing their baby boy’s arrival.
With only the little one’s cute feet showing in the photo—alongside a stuffed Phillies mascot doll—baby Hayes was also pictured with an adorable baseball-themed sign featuring his “scouting report,” including his date of birth, height, weight, and time of birth.

Congratulations Pour in for Bryce and Kayla Harper
Fans and MLB luminaries were quick to congratulate the Harpers on their newfound “chaos.”
“Congratulations,” wrote the Phillies’ official Instagram account. Newlywed White Lotus star Patrick Schwarzenegger shared, “Congrats guys!” Amy Crawford, wife of Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole, wrote, “Congrats!”
Fans were just as taken by the Harpers’ good news as they were by baby Hayes’ name.
“Such big congratulations! Also, I love his name—it’s so cool and special,” commented one fan. Another added, “Greatest name ever.”

Why Did Bryce Harper Name His Baby Hayes Three?

The number three isn’t just the Harpers’ son’s middle name—it’s also Bryce’s jersey number. The left-handed Phillies star also prefers to bat third in the lineup, just after Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber.
The number three also has personal significance. Harper’s father, Ron Harper, and brother, Bryan Harper, both wore the number 3 in high school.
However, Harper hasn’t always worn the number 3. While playing for the Washington Nationals, he wore number 34. Upon joining the Phillies, Harper made the switch to number 3 out of respect for the late Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay, who wore number 34. Harper chose to allow the number 34 to remain associated with Halladay’s legacy.
With the birth of Hayes Three Harper, the number three takes on even more special meaning for the slugger.
Baseball Is a Family Affair for the Harpers
As early as high school, Major League Baseball had its eye on Bryce Harper. In 2009, Sports Illustrated featured a cover story on him—then just a high school player—comparing him to NBA superstar LeBron James and dubbing Harper “The Chosen One,” just like James.
For the Harper family, baseball truly is a family business. Bryce’s older brother, Bryan Harper, is a former pitcher who spent eight seasons with the Washington Nationals.
Though the Harper brothers were teammates for one year at the College of Southern Nevada, they never shared the field professionally with the Nationals.
Despite their shared dream of playing together in the majors, that goal was never realized before Bryce reached free agency.
