Budget-friendly activities you can enjoy at the Calgary Stampede

20 June 20254 Mins Read

The greatest show on earth is almost here. Now, while we all love the 10 days of festivities that accompany Stampede, there’s no denying that it can be a little rough on the wallet. Luckily, there are lots of things to do at the Calgary Stampede that won’t break the bank.

In fact, most of the items on this list are free with your $25 Stampede admission, and that’s not even counting early access or superpass deals.

Here’s what to look forward to this year.

The Calgary Stampede kick-off is an attraction in and of itself, and it’s completely free to enjoy. Nab a good spot along the street and check out the floats and guests of honour. This year’s parade marshal is none other than country music legend Shania Twain. If you head down to the stampede right afterwards, you’ll also get into the grounds for free.

Cost: Free

For one night and one night only, the Stage of Wonders becomes a licensed 18+ Comedy Club. Stop by on Friday, July 11, 2025 and enjoy a lineup of Canada’s funniest comedians.

Cost: Free with Stampede admission

If you don’t mind a bit of waiting in line, you can get free breakfast for 10 days in a row. Check out any number of pancake breakfasts happening all over Calgary. The only caution is that you might be sick of pancakes by the end of it.

Cost: Free

Experience the best dancers and drummers from across North America at the Calgary Stampede Powwow on July 12 to 13, 2025, at the Saddledome. Experience the beauty and diversity of First Nations culture for free with park admission.

Cost: Free with Stampede admission

Nashville North, Big Four Roadhouse, Coke Stage Concerts

There are concerts happening all over the city, but we’re going to focus on the ones that won’t implode your budget. Luckily, the concerts at Nashville North, Big Four Roadhouse and the Coca-Cola Stage are all included with park admission and feature a ton of amazing artists.

Cost: Free with Stampede admission

Sample the Midway food

Who doesn’t love to eat? If you get into Stampede for free after the parade, all this will cost you is whatever looks tastiest. Try some of the wild and wacky flavour combinations on sale at the Midway this year, or check out our taste test to help narrow it down.

Cost: Varies by item

You can’t go wrong with the fair rides at the Midway. From the impressive Superwheel to games with flashy prizes, ride and game coupons are purchased at N.A.M.E. kiosks throughout the Midway, and they cost less than you think. Although maybe do the rides before you try the food, just in case.

Cost: 1 Coupon – $1, 11 Coupons – $10, 22 Coupons – $20, 55 Coupons – $50

Look up in awe as you watch daredevils complete some of the wildest stunts you’ve ever seen. Make sure you check the schedule at the Monster Energy Compound to catch one of these gravity-defying performances.

Cost: Free with Stampede admission

If the grounds start to get a little hot, you can cool off at the relaxing indoor escape of the Western Oasis. Browse stunning original artwork and photography while you enjoy music and live performances at the Window on the West Stage. Did we mention there’s also a Wine Garden?

Cost: Free with Stampede admission

Applaud as talented pups put on one of the cutest shows at Stampede. These local dogs will be showing off jaw-dropping tricks, agility, and comedy. They’re also adorable.

See the fireworks

While the best view will be at the grandstand show, we understand those tickets can cost a pretty penny. The nice thing is that you can find great views of the Stampede sky from all over Calgary, whether you’re at the Stampede grounds or elsewhere downtown.

Cost: Free from wherever there’s a view
