Calgary’s first combined pump track and skatepark is officially opening this weekend

19 August 20265 Mins Read

Calgary just got a new spot for skateboarding, biking, and other wheeled sports, and it’s celebrating with a full day of activities. The Martin Family Pump Track and Skatepark in George Moss Park is hosting its grand opening this weekend, giving locals a chance to check out the new space and join a lineup of activities.

According to Parks Foundation Calgary, the facility is Calgary’s first-ever combined concrete pump track and skatepark, and it’s part of a major park makeover that’s turning the area into a bigger community recreation hub.

So, what can you actually expect at the grand opening? Here’s what you need to know.

What to expect at the Martin Family Pump Track and Skatepark

Located in George Moss Park in Calgary’s southeast community of Ogden, the new facility will give Calgarians a dedicated space to ride, practice and enjoy the outdoors on wheels.

The new pump track and skatepark are part of a larger project to refresh the park, with new courts, gathering spaces, and upgrades to the existing baseball diamond.

The project was made possible with support from the Parks Foundation Calgary, the City of Calgary, the Government of Alberta and donors Greg and Joanne Martin.

What will happen at the grand opening?

The grand opening will be a full afternoon of activities, whether you’re already comfortable on a skateboard or just curious to try something new.

From 10 a.m. to noon, Learn to Skate sessions with New Line Skatepark will introduce beginners to skateboarding and help them learn the basics in a supportive setting.

Youth En Route will also host Learn to Bike sessions, giving participants a chance to build their biking skills and get comfortable riding. The organization will also host a free Kids Bike Trade Up, giving families a chance to bring in a kids’ bike they no longer need and trade it in for another bike that may be a better fit.

And for riders who need additional support, CP Kids and Families will offer an adapted bike riding session designed to make riding more accessible for children and families.

At 12:15 p.m., the grand opening will officially be marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, where you’ll have the chance to hear from community partners and the organizations that helped bring the new space to life.

After the ceremony wraps up, there will be a 30-minute skate jam, where local skateboarders will take to the new park for live demonstrations and show off their new skills.

Throughout the day, you can also enter the raffle for a chance to win prizes, with the draw taking place from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Just make sure you’re still there when the winners are announced at the end of the event, as you’ll need to be present ot claim your prize.

Will there be food and beverages?

Yes, free snacks will be available from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., while supplies last. Organizers also recommend bringing your own water and snacks, especially if you plan to stay for the full four-hour event.

Is the event open to all ages?

The event is open to all ages and is completely free to attend, so you can drop by even if you’re not participating in one of the scheduled lessons.

Do I need to sign up ahead of time?

If you want to take part in one of the Learn to Skate, Learn to Bike, or adapted bike sessions, limited seating is available, so you’ll need to register on Eventbrite ahead of the event. Otherwise, you don’t need to register for activities like the Skate Jam or the raffle.

What else is there to do at George Moss Park?

The new pump track and skatepark aren’t the only things to check out at George Moss Park. If you’re bringing younger kids, there’s a tot playground. The park also has basketball courts, plus plenty of green spaces and seating areas to hang out.

And if you’re into baseball, the park’s existing baseball diamond was relocated and enhanced as part of the latest redevelopment phase.

So if you’re heading to the park with a group, you don’t necessarily all have to be there for the same reason. You can skate or bike, shoot some hoops, let the kids play at the playground or just find a spot to sit and enjoy the scenery.

When is the grand opening?

The grand opening of the Martin Family Pump Track and Skatepark will take place on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 12:45 p.m., followed by the Skate Jam at 1 p.m. The day will wrap up at 2 p.m. with the raffle winners being announced.

If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to dust off your skateboard or finally learn to ride, this is your chance. And if you’re not particularly sporty? You can still swing by for the Skate Jam, giveaways and all the other grand opening festivities.

When: Grand opening on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Ribbon cutting at 12:15 p.m.)
Where: George Moss Park – 7224 22nd St. SE, Calgary, Alta.
