Calgary’s Screamfest has seven new haunted houses and they’re terrifying

15 August 20252 Mins Read

Screamfest is back in Calgary with seven new haunted houses and an eerie promise: you will scream.

Every year, the haunted Halloween festival brings haunted houses, character actors and carnival games to GMC Stadium.

Those who have attended Screamfest know that this fest is in the business of creating some seriously blood-curdling scenes, including haunted houses full of zombies, creepy clowns, “murderers,” and other thrills designed to turn you white as a sheet.

And with seven new haunted houses lined up this year, it’ll be the most haunted rendition yet.

What to expect

Screamfest will unveil seven new haunted house themes at this year’s festival: the slaughterhouse, clown town, repears and grimm, bates motel, afraid of the dark, zombie outbreak and the dollhouse.

There’s also plenty of other fun to be had, from Area 51 monster truck racing to a spooky “Midway” full of Halloween-themed carnival games.

Screamfest’s “Midway of Mayhem” is like the dark side of the moon to Stampede’s famous carnival. Here, you’ll find plenty of goths, horror fans, and terrified teens celebrating the scariest month of the year.

You’ll also have the option to soar sky-high on the Slingshot, or catch a horror flick or two at some select film screenings.

Getting into character

Screamfest’s character actors are notoriously committed to their parts. You might find yourself chased by a man with a bloody (fake) chainsaw, stopped by a lollipop-wielding lolita, or followed from house to house by a mysterious hunched pig man.

It’s all part of the atmosphere, which Screamfest promises to be bolder and more bone-chilling than ever.

Screamfest starts Oct. 10, so there’s plenty of time to snag a ticket or two for some Halloween holiday fun.

So quit clowning around and head on down to Screamfest this year — you won’t be disappointed.

When: Friday, Oct. 10 to Saturday, Nov. 1
Time: 7 p.m. to midnight
Where: GMC Stadium, Stampede Park — 2200 Stampede Tr. SE
Tickets: $30+
