Canada just ranked among top five in the world for outdoor adventure

13 June 20252 Mins Read

I mean, are we really surprised? In a country that has vast mountains, rolling hills, and flowing lakes, it’s no shock that Canada earned a top-five spot in KUHL’s Global Outdoor Destinations Index for the world’s greatest countries for outdoor travel. The brand, which sells high-quality outdoor and hiking clothing, recently released its ranking and here’s why Canada came in at number four.

According to KUHL, they looked at “global data for 183 countries across four areas: adventure opportunity, richness of landscapes, nature preservation efforts, and comfort and peace.”

“We used 12 metrics to guide us—things like how many outdoor activities are offered, how much forest and coastline a place has, how well its natural areas are protected, how peaceful it feels, and what kind of weather you can expect,” KUHL continues.

Canada came in fourth, heavily based on our country’s conservation efforts. We protect 12% of our land and have 11 UNESCO Natural World Heritage Sites, which were taken into consideration for the ranking.

KUHL also notes that Canada offers over 1,280 documented outdoor activities, which can range from hiking through the mountains in British Columbia to polar bear tracking near Hudson Bay.

This also likely comes as no surprise, as Canadians are known for their kindness, but another factor that helped Canada was in the “peace and comfort” category. This means outdoor travellers don’t feel like they compromise safety when seeking spots to travel in the country.

For what it’s worth, the countries that placed ahead of Canada are:

  1. Austrailia
  2. USA
  3. New Zealand

Do you agree with the ranking?
