Canada’s largest outdoor pool is in Ontario and opens this weekend

15 June 20262 Mins Read

The largest outdoor pool in all of Canada can be found within Ontario’s Byng Island Conservation Area in Dunnville. If the summer heat has been getting to you, you can now start planning your trips as the pool officially opens for the season this weekend.

Byng Island is a popular summer destination that will take you just over an hour and a half from Toronto to enjoy. In an email to Curiocity last month, Byng Island confirmed an opening date of June 20, 2026, for its gigantic pool.

Canada’s largest outdoor pool

The park itself spans 190 hectares and is made up of Carolinian forests, wetlands, and creeks, according to the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA)

And it may even feel like the outdoor swimming pool takes up most of this space, considering it can hold up to 1,000 people. Oh, and it also has a diving board.

Given the popularity of this pool, it may reach capacity. On hot summer days, you may want to check for real-time capacity updates online before you visit.

Though the pool opens later this week, the conservation area itself is open to the public now.

What else is there to do at Byng Island?

Hiking, cycling, fishing and more, Byng Island has a number of outdoor recreational activities you can enjoy. Stroll along a trail system with three different loops, including the Creekside Trail, Carolinian Trail and the Pines Trail. The three have a combined length of 2 km.

As for biking, cyclists can ride along on the conservation area roads.

So if you ask us, it’s time to plan that weekend road trip to Canada’s largest pool. After all, there’s LOTS to do here.

When: Saturday, June 20, 2026
Where:
4969 Haldimand Rd. 20
