Winter weather may have overstayed its welcome (especially in Montreal), but don’t pack away that parka just yet. Spring in Quebec is looking like a bit of a rollercoaster.
The Weather Network just dropped its 2025 Spring Forecast for every Canadian province, and while warmer days are on the horizon, they won’t come easy.
After a snowy winter, Quebec has already been handed a taste of spring-like weather. But April won’t be giving over consistent warmth without a fight. Expect some classic spring fake-outs with a few lingering cold snaps and even a chance of snow before things really start to turn around. As The Weather Network puts it, “the warmer weather will lack commitment through most of April, and a few parting punches from winter are still likely for Montreal and Quebec City.”
The good news? May is set to bring the heat. Temperatures are expected to trend above normal as we inch closer to summer, meaning Montrealers can finally swap their winter boots for something a little more terrasse-appropriate. “A warmer pattern is expected to develop during May with temperatures trending warmer than normal before we head into the start of summer,” according to The Weather Network.
On the flip side, precipitation levels are expected to be on the wetter side of normal, with a few heavy rain events in the mix. While spring flooding is always a concern, the lower-than-usual snow cover should help keep things in check.
As for when you should remove those winter tires, Quebec’s annual seasonal tire mandate wraps up this weekend, on March 15. However, Environment Canada meteorologist Gina Ressler told MTL Blog that winter conditions could stick around well into April in southern Quebec.
“We could still see some wintry weather in the beginning of April,” she said, adding that if you want to play it safe, wait until at least mid-April before swapping those wheels.
So while we’re in for a bit of a weather waiting game, summer-like vibes will be here before you know it. Just don’t be surprised if you’re reaching for a raincoat before the sunscreen.
