Amadeus Travel Intelligence data reveals travel patterns around US Open

The US Open is the premier event in North America’s tennis calendar. Open to amateur and professional players alike since 1968, the US Open is known for unexpected duels, underdog champions, and nail-biting action. According to the US Open, its 2025 tournament drew 1,144,562 fans across three weeks, a 9% rise on 2024 and the second consecutive year above one million.

This year, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is once again opening its doors to elite tennis players and fans from around the world. To complement the on-court analysis, Amadeus has analyzed travel data surrounding the tournament dates to identify any relevant and interesting patterns. The data, pulled on July 22, covers Aug. 21 to Sept. 13. Three core trends emerged:

Trend 1: Canadian travel spikes for US Open

Amadeus Travel Intelligence reveals that Canadian air bookings into New York for the 2026 US Open period from Aug. 21 to Sept. 13 are up 14.0% year on year. In this window, Canadian travel to New York makes up 4.3% of international inbound travel, a slight but significant increase compared to 2025’s 3.6%.

Trend 2: Three Sunbelt states drive over 70% of new domestic travel

Domestic air arrivals into New York for the period rise 15%, offsetting a 5% decline in international arrivals. This domestic growth means that total bookings are essentially unchanged, within 0.5%, between 2025 and 2026. Just three states account for 71% of this growth: California, Florida, and Texas.

Within domestic travel, economy bookings have grown by 21%.

Trend 3: High-value international trips take off

A closer look at international inbound travel reveals that business travel bookings have grown by 2% within this window. Simultaneously, the length of international stays has increased, with long stays of more than 14 nights rising by 6% while short and medium stays declined.
