Canadians named their ultimate travel bucket list spots & they’re not all what you’d expect

20 September 20252 Mins Read

Planning to take a trip but unsure where to go? Some travel advice from your fellow Canadians might sway your decision.

On Friday, Air Canada Vacations revealed the winners of its first-ever Travellers’ Choice Awards, and more than 100,000 Canadians weighed in on the destinations they dream about most. The survey asked people from coast to coast to rank their favourites across 10 categories — from foodie cities to romantic getaways — and the results paint a clear picture of where Canadians would hop on a plane tomorrow if they could.

Topping the “wellness” list was Bali, Indonesia, which won thanks to its many retreats, yoga culture, and lush scenery.

Other elements of the city highlighted in the report were “stunning world-famous beaches like Seminyak, Kuta and Sanur” and “cuisine featuring fresh spices, herbs and local ingredients in dishes like lawar and sate (satay).”

In second, Santorini, Greece took over the “Bucket List” category with its dramatic cliffs, whitewashed houses, and famous sunsets.

Meanwhile, Rome, Italy shone in the “Arts & Culture” category for its ancient history, Renaissance treasures, and buzzing contemporary scene.

Here are the full category winners from the Travellers’ Choice Awards:

  • Beach vacation: Grace Bay, Turks and Caicos
  • Bucket list: Santorini, Greece
  • Foodie favourite: Naples, Italy
  • Adventure travel: Kauai, Hawaii
  • Arts & culture: Rome, Italy
  • Wellness: Bali, Indonesia
  • Romance: Paris, France
  • City break: New York City, U.S.A.
  • Hidden gem: Singapore
  • Family: Honolulu, Hawaii

As results showed, Canadians spread their votes across a wide mix of destinations — from Caribbean beaches to Asian city-states. Other category winners included Naples for food, Kauai for adventure travel, and Paris for romance. Even New York City and Whistler made the cut in the city break and wellness lists, showing Canadians aren’t just looking overseas for their next trip.
