Carney reshapes Canada-U.S. advisory committee

21 April 20261 Min Read

Prime Minister Mark Carney is announcing the members of his new advisory committee on Canada-U.S. economic relations, replacing a similar group that former prime minister Justin Trudeau launched near the end of his term.

The committee adds several high-profile names, including former Conservative party leader Erin O’Toole, former Liberal cabinet minster and high commissioner to England Ralph Goodale, former Conservative cabinet minister Lisa Raitt and former Nunavut premier P.J. Akeeagok.

The new committee retains a handful of names from Trudeau’s committee, including former Quebec premier Jean Charest, Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association president Flavio Volpe and Unifor president Lana Payne.

A press release from the Prime Minister’s Office says the committee includes leaders from major Canadian industries and those with “extensive experience” in business, investment, trade and labour.

Dominic LeBlanc, the minister responsible for Canada-U.S. trade, will chair the new committee.

LeBlanc has spent much of the past year travelling between Ottawa and Washington ahead of the mandatory review of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement on trade this June.
