Carrie Underwood‘s new year is starting off with a bit of fashion controversy, so it seems.
On Tuesday, the American Idol winner-turned-judge took the stage in Times Square to perform several of her hits for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin Eve With Ryan Seacrest. But it wasn’t her incredible vocals or special surprise announcement at the end of her set that earned the attention of fans, rather, her outfits.

While the “Two Black Cadillacs” songstress’ style often garners attention from the public, normally, it’s praise for how she styles her toned physique in bold and timeless fashion pieces. Most recently, fans declared her leggy ensemble at the Grand Ole Opry the “star of the show,” shortly before that, they dubbed her the “best legs in the business.”
But fans’ supportive attitude struggled to make it out of 2024 as some believed Underwood’s New Year’s Eve outfits were plucked from Stevie Nicks‘ closet, featuring lots of fringe, glittery accents and metallic accents.
“The worst outfits I have ever seen you wear in my life!” one Instagram user wrote in response to a clip from the show posted by ABC. “And it wasn’t even cold tonight in New York. Carrie was disappointing.”
“Definitely Stevie Nicks vibe,” a second replied.
“I’m surprised she didn’t show her legs,” another disappointed viewer lamented. “Wow.”
“I used to love Carrie Underwood, but everything about her had changed so much,” another critic wrote.
“Um…this outfit and the guitar is not working! 😬,” a fourth teased.

Still, not everyone was turned off by the many colorful, frilly, festive and fun looks Underwood rocked all night.
“The queen SLAYED per usual 👑👏🏼,” one top-liked comment cheered.
“Great show as always! 🙌,” a second declared.
“Sooooo goooood🔥,” another gushed before someone else said, “love the outfit and great performance!!!”
“I think she looks and sounds amazing,” one more said in defense of the eight-time Grammy winner, noting, “I’m not even a regular fan 🔥🔥🔥🔥🙌🙌🙌.”
As for that big announcement she made during the show, those who couldn’t make it to her Reflection tour will be pleased to know they can catch up on all the live renditions of their favorite songs in her upcoming concert film set to debut on Friday, Jan. 24 via Hulu.
