Cecily Strong and Bobby Moynihan Return to the Weekend Update Desk With Iconic 'SNL' Characters

16 February 20252 Mins Read

Over the last 50 years, Saturday Night Live has created hundreds of characters that have busted our guts, many of which were born at the “Weekend Update” desk. For the show’s 50th Anniversary special, it was anyone’s guess which of those characters would show up to tickle our funny bones, but the audience was far from disappointed with the cameos who came sliding in on those “Update” roller chairs.

First, Cecily Strong reprised her fan-favorite character “The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation with at a Party.” Even though Strong has been off the show since 2022, she easily slipped back into the role, slurring her words and talking absolute nonsense, and even had a big announcement for co-anchors Colin Jost and Micheal Che. “Notice anything different about me? she asks. When Che inquires if she is pregnant, TGYWYHSACWAAP responds, “Wowwww, you assume I’m pregnant just ‘cause I have a baby inside me. That’s misogyn-astic.” She continues in her misguided feminist takes asking, “Why is no one talking about Luigi WOMAN-gioni?” causing Che to hang his head in disbelief.

The pregnancy reveal wasn’t the only shocking announcement to hit the desk on Sunday night. When Che asks Strong who the father is, in rolls Bobby Moynihan’s Drunk Uncle, eliciting a huge reaction from the studio audience. “You two are together?” Jost asks. “Yup!” Drunk Uncle responds, “Just your typical Hollywood couple: beautiful woman in her thirties, drunk idiot in his seventies.” And it wouldn’t be a Drunk Uncle appearance if it didn’t end with him breaking down in tears over all the people he thinks are better than him, this time wailing, “So I’m not musical guest Timothee Chalamet!”
