Celebrities who have shared their love for Alberta

30 June 20256 Mins Read

Wild Rose Country has long been revered for its beauty. From boreal forests to majestic mountains, the province and its diverse landscape have been featured in tons of notable productions, but that should come as no surprise. Those who film movies and TV shows in Alberta love it here, including celebrities.

Whether they’re a part of a big project like The Last of Us or are on set for something smaller, the directors, cast, and crew aren’t shy about their love for the Prairies.

Here are just a few celebs who have shared their appreciation for the people, places, and things that they’ve seen while in the area.

Best known for his role on New Girl, Lamorne Morris gushed about the province after filming Fargo in 2023.

“It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to,” Morris once told Jimmy Kimmel.

“It’s so cold, there’s so much snow, and there are so many cowboys for whatever reason. They’re just walking around all loosey-goosey, just cowboy stuff.”

Speaking of “cowboy stuff,” country singer Luke Combs has also been to, and fallen in love with, Alberta.

In 2023, he shared that he had recently taken a trip from Calgary to Banff on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

“It is the sickest drive, like 20 minutes out of Calgary, it turns into the most Rocky Mountain thing you’ve ever seen,” he said.

“It’s out of control, man. I mean, I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Whether he’s your favourite live-action Spider-Man, or third, Andrew Garfield also raved about Wild Rose Country, where he shot Under the Banner of Heaven.

“Dude, I loved it, I genuinely really loved Calgary and I love Alberta,” he said in an Interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“I love the people, I loved the restaurants, I loved the food – the nature,” adding that he even took a “crazy cold” dip in Lake Louise.

“I was like, why is no one else doing this… and then I jumped in and I was like – oh, now I understand why no one else is doing this. It’s very, very cold.”

It seems as though no one can get enough of Pedro Pascal, and Pedro Pascal can’t get enough of Canada!

The star of HBO’s The Last of Us, which filmed its first season in and around the province, Pascal has been quoted several times talking about his time in Calgary, Edmonton, and Canmore.

“Shoutout to Canada, I love Canada – take me back,” he said in an interview with eTalk.

“I can understand why we ended up shooting the series in Calgary, throughout all of Alberta, really, because there is such a powerful and dynamic physical landscape to Alberta and we use the real mountains, the real rivers, real lakes and uhm, Prairies, and snow and all of it.

The actor even has Calgary-themed socks that he’s worn during public outings.

We really are all in this together, because we think Alberta is a gorgeous province too.

In 2019, the actress posted to her Instagram from Lake Louise in Banff, sharing that she was “in complete awe of this beautiful place,” and we couldn’t be more flattered.

Juno Temple spent plenty of time in and around Calgary when filming Fargo‘s fifth season, and even got to see the northern lights while there.

“I came home and, this was randomly after one day at work. It was about 9 o’clock at night, and on the other side of the picture, if I had done panoramic, you would see that there was an amazing moon and star, which is what I noticed originally,” she once told Jimmy Kimmel.

“Then the driver was like, ‘Juno, look up,’ and I was like ‘holy shnikes!’”

During an appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden, actress Daisy Edgar-Jones spilled about her time in Alberta filming Under The Banner of Heaven, and it’s safe to say that she’s a fan.

Sitting next to Pedro Pascal, Edgar-Jones practically lit up talking about Banff.

In addition to calling Calgary restaurant Model Milk “the place,” she also called the national park beautiful… before roasting its name.

Since filming The Last of Us in Alberta, actor Gabriel Luna has been back several times, and often cheers for the Flames.

“Albertans are real good people,” he said in an Instagram post, also commenting on a win for Calgary’s home team.

Albertans are a rowdy bunch, according to comedian Bill Burr, who once recalled a show that he did in the city of Calgary.

“In Calgary, they were f***ing animals at this place! Animals!” he said.

According to Burr, YYC was the “craziest crowd” he ever had, and even talked about how awesome the destination was for over a minute.

While there’s no trace of the actor on social media anymore, Bella Ramsey wasn’t shy when speaking about Alberta.

“CALGARY,” the powerhouse performer once wrote. “I can’t believe how much I missed you.”

In addition, Ramsey had posted several photos taken while filming in the area, with captions reflecting on what a “beautiful sunny” country the Great North is.

A hometown hero! Originally from Calgary, pop icon Tate McRae is another celebrity who has given Alberta several shoutouts.

Since the beginning of her career, McRae has named a song after the southern city, and couldn’t contain her excitement when she played her first show at the Cowboys Music Festival.

“MY FIRST HOMETOWN SHOW,” she wrote. “Could not be more proud to be from Calgary and could not be more grateful for all ur support. That was sick. I love u guys, thank u.”

Actor and stand-up comedian Nick Offerman once told The Calgary Herald that he was a big fan of the province — more specifically, YYC.

“I would move to Calgary in a heartbeat,’ he said. “It has everything.”

Another fan of the Great North? We love to see it.

Queer Eye icon Bobby Berk took a trip to the province in 2023 and “couldn’t recommend Alberta more.”

“It’s so beautiful! I ♥️ Canada 🇨🇦,” he said.

You can take the musicians out of Calgary, but you can’t take Calgary out of the musicians.

Alt-pop duo Tegan and Sara are also big Alberta fans, but that’s a given.

Born and raised in Calgary, they wrote and produced an entire show about their upbringing in the city, aptly named High School, which was filmed mainly at Crescent Heights.

Are there any Alberta-loving celebrities we missed? Who do you hope will visit the province next? The sky really is the limit these days.
