New first-look stills have been released featuring Charlize Theron, fresh off her return in The Old Guard sequel, alongside Eric Bana, who recently appeared in Netflix’s 2025 series UNTAMED, and Taron Egerton, last seen on the streamer in Carry-On. The trio star in Baltasar Kormákur’s 2026 Netflix survival thriller APEX, set to debut this spring.
People.com got the exclusive first look at the new movie, which is now confirmed to premiere globally on April 24th, 2026. They spoke to Theron about the role and described it as one of her most physically demanding roles to date, less about fight choreography and more about extreme endurance and survival.
“In this case, I was climbing a lot. I was climbing pretty much every day,” she told the outlet, explaining that once production moved to Australia, kayaking became part of her daily routine as well. Theron emphasized that she performed the climbs herself, adding, “I climb all of the actual mountains in the movie. I’m climbing all of it, and I’m climbing it barefoot on my own raw feet.” Despite the intensity, she noted that the role marked her first real experience with climbing, aside from “trees when I was a kid in Africa,” calling the process “so much fun.”
Theron also spoke about the demanding shoot and the collaborators who made it worthwhile, noting that filming often required the cast and crew to hike into remote Australian locations. She praised director Baltasar Kormákur’s no-shortcuts approach and said Apex finally allowed her to work with Eric Bana after years of near misses. “I have been trying to work with Eric for over 20 years,” she said. “We have literally circled each other on projects and it’s just never worked out, so this was kind of a no-brainer… He’s amazing in the film.”

The official updated logline for APEX reads, “A grieving woman testing her limits in the Australian wilderness is suddenly ensnared in a deadly game with a ruthless predator.”
The film is directed by Baltasar Kormákur, who also serves as a producer, with the screenplay written by Jeremy Robbins. The film is produced by Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, David Ready, Ian Bryce, Charlize Theron, A.J. Dix, and Beth Kono. Leading the cast, Charlize Theron stars as Sasha alongside Taron Egerton as Ben and Eric Bana as Tommy.
