China’s total hotel construction pipeline is stable at 3,779 projects as of Q4 2024, with the upper midscale segment dominating the growth.
The latest China Construction Pipeline Trend Report from Lodging Econometrics (LE) reveals that China’s total hotel construction pipeline held steady at 3,779 projects/681,915 rooms at the end of Q4 2024. The upper midscale segment was the preferred chain scale for development, accounting for 32% of the projects.
Projects under construction accounted for 2,753 projects/491,966 rooms, indicating a 4% increase in both projects and rooms year-over-year. Brand conversions reached a record-high room count at Q4, with hotel renovations and brand conversions totaling 195 projects/39,156 rooms, demonstrating a significant increase of 34% in projects and 37% in rooms year-over-year.
