Tyler Rake is officially preparing for his next mission. While news on the third installment has been quiet since it was first announced at TUDUM 2023, we now have some updated production dates and filming locations for Extraction 3.
According to recent production listings, Extraction 3 is currently scheduled to begin principal photography in June 2026. Of course, this remains subject to change, given that we’ve been hearing for quite some time that a production start is just around the corner.
Filming is expected to run through October 9th, 2026. While the previous films have utilized locations across India, Thailand, and Prague, the third entry is heading “down under.” The production is currently based in Sydney, Australia, which serves as the home turf for lead star Chris Hemsworth. Additionally, sources tell us that Europe is expected to be the home for some of the filming over the Summer, although we haven’t got exact confirmation where.
The shift to Australia marks a significant “homecoming” for both the production and its lead star. The first Extraction was a gritty, sweat-soaked affair filmed across Ahmedabad and Mumbai in India, as well as various locations in Thailand, to recreate the bustling streets of Dhaka. For Extraction 2, the production originally planned to shoot in Sydney, but was forced to relocate to Prague, Czech Republic, and Vienna, Austria, due to COVID-19 lockdowns. By finally landing in Sydney for the third entry, director Sam Hargrave and Chris Hemsworth are finally getting the Australian-based production they have been chasing since 2021, likely utilizing the country’s diverse terrain to deliver a fresh aesthetic compared to the tropical heat of the first film and the snowy industrialism of the second.

The “Action Dream Team” is returning for the third movie. Sam Hargrave, who transitioned from being a legendary stunt coordinator to a top-tier action director with the first two films, is back in the director’s chair.
The Russo Brothers’ AGBO is producing, with Joe Russo expected to handle screenwriting duties once again. Other key names attached to the project include:
- Producers: Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin.
- Cinematography: Fraser Taggart (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning).
- Casting: Sarah Finn (the casting mastermind behind the MCU).
The Expanding “Extraction Universe”
Netflix isn’t just stopping at a trilogy. Following the massive viewership numbers for Extraction 2, the Russo Brothers and Netflix officially confirmed plans to expand the franchise into a cinematic universe. In various interviews, Joe Russo has teased that they are looking to “find more interesting ways to tell these stories” beyond just Tyler Rake’s linear journey.
Currently, two other major projects are in the pipeline:
- Mercenary (TV Series): Netflix has officially greenlit an eight-episode spin-off series titled Mercenary. The show stars Omar Sy (Lupin) as a new lead character, a mercenary navigating a high-stakes hostage rescue in Libya. Showrun by Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead), the series reportedly began filming in North Africa in late 2025 and is expected to hit the service before Extraction 3.
- Tygo (Spin-off Film): Announced in late 2025, this spin-off film is set in South Korea and stars Don Lee (Train to Busan, Eternals). Directed by Lee Sang-yong, the project follows Lee’s character, Tygo—a former child soldier turned mercenary—on a revenge mission through the Korean criminal underworld.
Given the late 2026 wrap date for Extraction 3, we likely won’t see the film hit Netflix until Summer or Fall 2027.
