Christian Movie and Media Notes: Sight & Sounds ‘NOAH’ Sails from Stage to Screen, Best TV Shows to Binge Watch

28 August 20253 Mins Read

The Christian entertainment industry is as busy as it has ever been. More faith-based movies. More Christian TV shows. More everything, quite frankly.

It’s hard to keep track of it all: Trust us, we know. So in an effort to keep tabs on the industry and help you stay informed, we’re launching this new, semi-regular feature on our blog. This space will talk about a handful of upcoming releases, new trailers and special features related to Christian media—be it movies, shows, music or even video games.

So without further preamble, let’s dive in, shall we?

‘NOAH—Live!’ Floats into Theaters

Sight & Sound Theatres is known for its lavish productions based on biblical stories. Its two locations (in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Branson, Missouri) reportedly draw more than a million people through its doors each year. It has dabbled in film work, too.

In honor of the 30th Anniversary of what Sight & Sound calls its flagship production, NOAH, it’s pushing the stage play into movie theaters: Sight & Sound Presents: NOAH—Live! The nearly three-hour stage-to-screen adaptation will premiere Sept. 18. You can check out the trailer here:

‘Dot Conner: Webtective’ Sleuths Out Theatrical Release

In 2022, the streaming service Minno released an original eight-episode program called Dot Conner: Webtective. It was a mystery show rooted in the Bible and filled (according to Kennedy Unthank’s review) with strong scriptural takeaways and Christian lessons. The show has since migrated to YouTube, as well.

Now, a new Dot Conner: Webtective movie is hitting theaters Sept. 19. We’re not sure about the theater count just yet, but you can watch a new trailer for the film right here:

We’ll definitely review the film, so be looking out for that, too.

Tyler Perry Brings Faith-Based Film to Netflix

The book of Ruth is one of the Bible’s most intimate stories. Now, Tyler Perry—who built a media empire on the broad, broad shoulders of his foul-mouthed alter-ego Madea—has taken that story, modernized it and is bringing it to Netflix Sept. 26.

Perry co-produced the film—titled Ruth & Boaz—with DeVon Franklin, the producer of such films as Breakthrough and Miracles From Heaven. They expect this will be just the first of many such partnerships for Netflix, since the streaming service is actively working to add more faith-based fare to its lineup.

Perry has a history of including Christian elements in his films. But his work often includes other, more problematic, content too. And judging by the trailer (which was released today), Ruth & Boaz will have some issues to navigate. Still, it’ll be interesting to see what the final product looks like. And we’ll tell you all about it when we do.

‘The Blind’ Re-Released

Phil Robertson, outspoken Christian and patriarch of the Duck Dynasty family, died this May at the age of 79. To commemorate his passing, Fathom Events is re-releasing The Blind, a 2023 film about Robertson’s difficult, halting journey to faith. The movie will be out in theaters for five days, from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4.
