Foundations of Leadership in the Arts

The Foundations of Leadership in the Arts program is a cohort-based program that provides practical customized content taught by Haskayne business faculty and Alberta arts and non-profit professionals. It is designed to benefit arts professionals with 3+ years of experience from all disciplines and roles including (but not limited to): program administrators, project coordinators, general managers, artistic directors/producers, arts business owners, community builders, arts volunteers, and board members.

The Rozsa Foundation values equity, diversity and inclusion in our programs. We welcome and encourage applications for the Foundations of Leadership in the Arts program from arts professionals who identify as Indigenous, Black, People of Colour, New Canadians, Deaf Persons, Persons with Disabilities, Persons Living with Mental Illness, and 2SLGBTQQIA+.

Participants will learn to:
• Identify practical strategies to move your organization forward including through brand building and community engagement
• Apply strategic thinking to tangible projects within your organization
• Practice leadership in a values-led, ethical way
• Foster an inclusive, respectful work culture
• Implement collaborative learning principles to allow ongoing knowledge exchange

A critical success measure for the Foundations program is that learnings are applied to real, relevant, and timely challenges and opportunities. The Capstone Projects provide a meaningful way for participants to practically apply program content, assess knowledge gained, and utilize critical thinking and effective communication to drive a project forward. Your Capstone Project offers a tangible outcome for you and/or your organization.

This program incorporates:
• Six 5.5-hour Core sessions of synchronous, real-time learning led by Haskayne faculty and practicing Alberta arts and non-profit leaders
• Up to four 4.5-hour sessions of Intersections sessions of synchronous, real-time learning led by Haskayne faculty and practicing Alberta arts and non-profit leaders
• Up to 20 hours of self-directed learning (1-3 hours of pre-work for each live session)
• Up to 25 hours of Capstone Project development
• Two Capstone Project guidance sessions and one Capstone Project share-back session
• A Capstone Project presentation
• Cohort networking

The sessions typically occur on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and, along with additional presentation dates, begin October 8th, 2025 and run through April 8th, 2026.

The Rozsa Foundation requires a financial investment from individuals or the organizations they work with to secure a spot in the program. Tuition ranges from $200 for individuals to $1500 for employees of organizations with an operating but of more than $900K, with various levels in between based on an organization’s operating budget.

Application deadline: August 15, 2025
