Clive Barker’s Hellraiser gets new survival horror single-player game

22 July 20252 Mins Read

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser is getting what its creator calls the first “true” video game adaptation with Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, developer Boss Team Games and publisher Saber Interactive announced Tuesday. Hellraiser: Revival is described by its creators as a single-player, survival-horror action game that will send players to Hell, where they’ll battle Pinhead, his fellow Cenobites, and a cult that worships the sadomasochistic demons.

Notably, Hellraiser: Revival will bring back actor Doug Bradley, who will voice Pinhead in the new game.

Hellraiser: Revival casts players as Aidan, who wields a puzzle box known as the Genesis Configuration as he journeys to Hell (and across Hell on Earth) to aid his missing girlfriend and challenge the Cenobites. A trailer for Hellraiser: Revival shows first-person gameplay against Hell’s rank and file, as well as iconic characters like Chatterer stalking the player.

“Working on the first true Hellraiser game has been a venture deep into the recesses of my darkest imaginings,” said Clive Barker, author and creator of the Hellraiser franchise. “The dedication that Saber and Boss Team Games have shown is nothing short of remarkable. They’ve immersed themselves in the Hellraiser universe, capturing its essence—the seductive pull of suffering, the beauty within the grotesque—and forged a narrative that invites players to step beyond the threshold. I’m eager for both the curious and the damned to experience this new chapter in the Hellraiser mythos, where every moment balances on the brink of nightmare and revelation.”

Barker’s reference to “the first true Hellraiser game” appears to acknowledge past Hellraiser projects, like Pinhead’s previous (and since-removed) appearance in Dead by Daylight and the infamously canceled Hellraiser game for NES. Barker has previously worked on his own original video game worlds, including Clive Barker’s Undying and Clive Barker’s Jericho.

Boss Team Games’ previous work includes Evil Dead: The Game and retro-style games based on Halloween and Ash vs. The Evil Dead. Saber has developed and published a handful of licensed horror games, including A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, Evil Dead: The Game, and World War Z: Aftermath.

The first Hellraiser movie, which was written and directed by Barker, was released in 1987. The film was based on Barker’s 1986 novella The Hellbound Heart, and spawned multiple sequels, comic book spinoffs, and plenty of Pinhead merchandise.

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival does not have an announced release date, but it’s in development for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
