Coco Jones' Outfit at Super Bowl LX Has Whitney Houston Connection

9 February 20263 Mins Read

Coco Jones made a strong statement at Super Bowl LX not just with her voice, but with her outfit.

The Grammy-winning singer honored music legend Whitney Houston through a fashion tribute during her pregame performance on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

ESPN later shared a side-by-side photo of Jones and Houston, pointing out the clear connection between their Super Bowl looks and noting that Jones’ wardrobe paid homage to Houston’s famous 1991 outfit.

Jones performed “Lift Every Voice and Sing” Sundayoff, continuing the song’s tradition at the Super Bowl since 2021. The 28-year-old star worked with legendary streetwear designer Karl Kani to create the look, according to The Athletic.

The all-white outfit was a modern reimagining of what Houston wore when she performed the U.S. national anthem at the 1991 Super Bowl. That moment is still remembered as one of the greatest Super Bowl performances ever.

Jones had already hinted before the game that her outfit would include a tribute. In an interview leading up to the event, she shared her excitement about working with Kani and letting him shine during such a big cultural moment. Kani described the design as keeping an athletic feel while making it more elegant and dramatic.

The final outfit included a cropped white jacket with a bedazzled stripe and a high-low bubble skirt with a long train. The jacket also featured red, black and green accents, colors of the Pan-African flag, which added extra meaning because the performance took place during Black History Month.

Houston’s original 1991 outfit also featured an all-white athletic style with a red stripe and a white headband. Jones matched that detail by wearing a white headband as part of her look.

The design also helped connect the meaning of the song “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” often called the Black national anthem, with the history of Black artists performing on major global stages.

Jones has said representing culture on a big stage has always been important to her. In past interviews, she explained that being chosen for the Super Bowl felt surreal but also like a great honor. She said she felt grateful to represent culture in such a worldwide moment.

Jones delivered a soulful performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” while backed by a string ensemble. The song has been performed at every Super Bowl pregame show since 2021.

She was part of a packed pregame lineup that included Green Day, Brandi Carlile and Charlie Puth. Bad Bunny headlined the halftime show.

The multi-talented entertainer first gained recognition through Disney projects and later built a strong music career, including chart success and Grammy nominations. She released her album Why Not More? in 2025 and continues balancing music and acting, including her role in Bel-Air.

For viewers who grew up hearing Houston’s iconic performance, seeing Jones honor that legacy made the night feel extra meaningful.
