Critical Role’s Legend of Vox Machina season 5 confirmed at SDCC 2025

24 July 20253 Mins Read

What may be somewhat of a downer for fans of Vox Machina to hear is that it will also be the final season, concluding the adventures of this ragtag group that has captured the hearts of viewers even before it was first adapted into an animated TV show in 2022.

The fifth and final season was announced during Critical Role’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, where it also unveiled a brand-new show premiering this November: The Mighty Nein. The Mighty Nein focuses on Critical Role’s second campaign with a new group of adventurers that, like Vox Machina, have to deal with world-ending scenarios, evildoers, and shenanigans that can only occur in the fantastical world of Exandria.

The Legend of Vox Machina stars the cast and founders of Critical Role with Laura Bailey (The Last of Us: Part 2) returning as Vex, Liam O’Brien (Marvel’s Avengers) as Vax, Taliesin Jaffe (World of Warcraft) as Percy de Rolo, Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us) as Pike Trickfoot, Marisha Ray (Fallout 76) as Keyleth, Travis Willingham (Marvel’s Avengers) as Grog Strongjaw, Matthew Mercer (Baldur’s Gate 3) as various characters (considering his role as Dungeon Master) and, most surprisingly of all considering his character’s previous exit in season 3, Sam Riegel (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Taryon Darrington.

Alongside getting a season 5 renewal, fans got the chance to see an exclusive sneak peek of The Legend of Vox Machina season 4, a clip highlighting just how these lovable numbskulls are going to get in and out of a vault. In typical Vox Machina fashion, we assume the execution of said plan will go down as well as a lead balloon.

After season 3, our band of heroes has scattered across Tal’Dorei on their separate journeys, but when a new foe emerges, they have little choice but to reunite to deal with this villainous threat.

While the fifth season being the last may break some hearts, co-founders Sam Riegel and Travis Willingham seem happy with the outcome. “It’s so rare for any television series to get to tell a complete story, beginning to end, exactly as it was envisioned,” Riegel and Willingham said in a statement. “We’re so grateful to our fans, the critters, our partners at Prime Video, and the original Kickstarter backers for bringing this show to life, and turning the numbskulls of Vox Machina into animation legends.”

The Legend of Vox Machina season 4 is expected to return sometime in 2026 on Prime Video.
