Critical Role’s The Mighty Nein animated series premieres this November

25 July 20253 Mins Read

Critical Role, the multiplatform and multimedia entertainment phenomenon made up of talented actors across the entertainment industry, has announced at San Diego Comic-Con the release date of their newest upcoming Prime Video show, The Mighty Nein.

News of the date of the premiere was revealed during Critical Role’s SDCC panel, where eager fans got a glimpse of some clips from the series featuring fan-favorite characters, as well as images of character art designs and the reveal of a star-studded cast.

Much like in The Legend of Vox Machina, the group of outcasts and fugitives known as The Mighty Nein are put in a rock and a hard place, in which they have no other choice but to work together to save the world. This time around, an arcane relic known as “The Beacon” has fallen into the wrong hands and threatens to undo reality itself.

The Mighty Nein is an Amazon MGM Studios, Critical Role, and Titmouse production for Prime Video. The new series is adapted from Critical Role’s second campaign, which follows a group of adventurers known as The Mighty Nein (despite there not being nine at all, we know).

In fact, one of the clips released during the SDCC panel riffs that there are, in fact, only seven of them. Pulled into jail after tragedy occurs, our heroes are interrogated about who they are and where they’ve come from. You can watch the clip for yourself, here.

The main cast comprises of the founders of Critical Role and the same actors who portrayed them during the tabletop adventure, which ran from 2018 to 2021. Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us) will star as Yasha Nydoorin, Laura Bailey (The Last of Us: Part II) as Jester Lavorre, Liam O’Brien (Marvel’s Avengers) as Caleb Widogast, Taliesin Jaffe (World of Warcraft) as Mollymauk ‘Molly’ Tealeaf’, Travis Willingham (Marvel’s Avengers) as Fjord, Sam Riegel (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) as Nott the Brave, Marisha Ray (Fallout 76) as Beauregard “Beau” Lionett, and Matthew Mercer (Baldur’s Gate 3), who will undoubtedly star in the show in some way or form considering his contribution as the campaign’s Dungeon Master (DM).

It wasn’t just the main cast that was revealed during the SDCC panel. Guest stars that will also be involved in the new series include legendary names like Ming-Na Wen (The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett), Mark Strong (1917), Alan Cumming (The Traitors), Tim McGraw (The Blind Side), Auli’i Cravalho (Moana), Rahul Kohli (iZombie, Midnight Mass), Robbie Daymond (Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Date Everything), Anika Noni Rose (Princess and the Frog) and Jonathan Frakes (Star Trek: The Next Generation).

Fans of Critical Role and The Sensual Seven, uh, I mean, The Mighty Nein, won’t have to wait long before the show airs. It will premiere on Nov. 19 exclusively on Prime Video, and be available in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

And if you can’t wait that long — or want a headstart on what you can expect from this new series — the second campaign following The Mighty Nein can be watched via Spotify and YouTube.
