CD Projekt Red has spent a long time turning Cyberpunk 2077 from a launch nightmare into one of the best games of the past decade, and it appears the developer isn’t done yet. On Thursday, CDPR plans to roll out a new update for the PlayStation 5 version of the game, bringing enhanced PlayStation 5 Pro support to Cyberpunk 2077.
“We wanted to make the most of the PS5 Pro’s cutting-edge technology by bringing 4K visuals, powered-up performance, advanced ray tracing, and more to the Cyberpunk 2077 experience,” said Kuba Knapik, vice president and global art director at CD Projekt Red, in a post on the PlayStation Blog. “The goal was to bring the very best out of both the hardware and our game to make Night City shine as brightly as possible.”
Knapik said that Cyberpunk 2077‘s PS5 Pro update will, of course, support Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling technology, as well as “ray-traced lighting, shadows, and reflections, bringing the lighting even closer to our artistic vision for this world.” Expect the neon lights and glowing LEDs of Night City to look more cyberpunkish than ever, basically.
CD Projekt Red is giving PS5 Pro owners a trio of graphics modes to match their preferences, including a “Ray Tracing Pro” mode that enables “enables all available ray tracing enhancements.” That means “ray-traced reflections, ambient occlusion, skylight, shadows, and emissive lighting,” with the game targeting 40 frames per second on variable refresh rate (VRR)-enabled displays or 30 frames per second refresh rates otherwise.
There’s also a Performance mode, which focuses on the highest possible frame rate — up to 90 fps on displays with VRR — and Ray Tracing mode, described as a “sweet spot between visuals and performance” with “select ray tracing enhancements” and 60 fps support.
Cyberpunk 2077‘s new PS5 Pro features will go live on April 8, and should hopefully make the investment in Sony’s higher-end PlayStation 5 feel worth it (especially if you got on board before the system’s latest price hike). Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available through PlayStation’s Game Catalog, which is accessible to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers.
