David Muir is bearing the brunt of viewers’ frustration after some caught sight of what appears to be a helpful hack for keeping his jacket in place during a recent broadcast focusing on the destruction caused by the California fires.
In a video originally uploaded by Ozzy Osbourne’s son Jack, the ABC media personality was seen wearing a bright yellow jacket with ABC News emblazoned across the left side of his chest, with reflective tape positioned above his wrists and around his waistline.

When he turned to point to the devastation behind him, you could see a wooden clothespin holding the excess material of the outerwear tightly together, presumably improving the fit of the garment for the reporter.
The clip was reuploaded and shared by several internet users, immediately sparking backlash over the journalist’s apparent focus on fashion over facts.
“Nice Jacket Bro. Glad you look nice and svelte with those clothes line pegs, while our city burns to the ground,” Jack wrote in frustration. It’s unclear which fire Muir was focusing on, as several are sweeping through the Los Angeles area at once.

“Lol the vanity in LA never takes a pause,” one person replied, while another vented, “People are losing everything they have, but I have to make sure I look good in my fake fireman’s jacket.”
But as many attacked Muir for his perceived “vanity,” several stepped up to defend him, pointing out the practical applications of the clothespins.

“Probably used to keep reporters from looking like Michelin-Man in the wind,” one commented, while others noted how “Oversized jackets can get caught on debris and cause safety issues” or that the coat “flapping around in the wind” could interfere with his report’s sound.
“Media are required to wear PPE and they never fit,” someone else replied. “Why would this matter?”
“Wow. Of all things to be upset about as a city burns. Priceless,” someone else agreed.
Countless residents have lost everything as the Palisades, Sunset, and Eaton fires, among others, rage through the area.
