Days of Our Lives star Alison Sweeney returned as Sami for her own special storyline following John’s (Drake Hogestyn) death. As Parade reported, the actress was unable to come back for John’s funeral and tribute to Hogestyn due to scheduling issues.
However, having Sami mourn John on her own was kind of fitting considering their relationship. After the emotional episode featuring tear-jerker scenes between Marlena (Deidre Hall) and Sami, Sweeny used social media to express how it felt filming the episode.

The actress posted a carousel of photos to Instagram, with Hogestyn front and center in all of them. Sweeney even threw it way back in a couple of the pictures.
“So many feelings about today’s episode of @dayspeacock – I know you all have been going through it too. ❤️ We all have such special memories of Drake. Filming these scenes with Dee, being in ‘John & Marlena’s townhouse’ set again, really brought it home for me. The number one thing I think now is how lucky I was to have known Drake, worked with him, and learned from him. I am so grateful to be a part of his Days family. ⌛️,” read the touching caption on her post.
A few of Sweeney’s Days of Our Lives co-stars showed up in the comments to respond to her emotional message and feelings about Hogestyn.
“Legend. Miss him so much ❤️❤️❤️ love you sister,” said Jen Lilley (ex-Theresa). Eric Martsolf (Brady) kept his response simple, writing, “Yep❤️,” while Martha Madison (Belle) used emojis only to reply.

Fans also shared messages in the comments section. “Man Sammy John Marlena were literally everything to me growing up. So many memories with my grandma watching,” declared a fan.
Another stated, “Sammy Brady, John Black and Marlena was such a pivotal watching experience in my life in the 90’s. My husband would send me VHS recordings while I was deployed.”
Other comments included, “I was crying along with you!😢” and “Can’t believe he is gone. He was legend.”
There’s no question that Salem isn’t the same without John Black, and Days isn’t the same without soap legend Hogestyn.
Days of Our Lives airs weekdays on Peacock.
