'Days of Our Lives' Eric Martsolf Reveals Why Fatherhood Won’t Get Easier for Brady

14 September 20253 Mins Read

Fatherhood has been tough for Days of Our Lives’ Brady Black (Eric Martsolf), now with both of his children, Tate (Leo Howard) and Rachel, going through rough patches, Martsolf explains how things are not going to get easier anytime soon.

Martsolf was recently interviewed by Soaps.com, where he discussed the recent storyline developments for his character.

Tate:

“Tate’s a mess”

Eric Martsolf (Soaps.com)

Brady’s son, Tate Black, returned to Salem as a teenager in 2023 (then played by Jamie Martin Mann). While he’s had a complicated life, as he was kicked out of boarding school due to a prank gone wrong.  Tate’s latest drama revolves around his triangle relationship with Sophia (Rachel Boyd) and Holly (Ashley Puzemis). Sophia recently had Tate’s child, but lied to him about all relevant facts of the birth (date, sex, location), and gave the child up to a safe haven while Tate believes the child was given up for adoption.

Tate’s now determined to locate his child, and get to say goodbye, with his father Brady’s help.

Reflecting on Brady and Tate’s relationship, Martsolf shared with Soaps.com, “he [Brady] brought Tate back into Salem for the best of reasons and intentions. But as we do on soaps, Tate’s getting himself into some trouble, and it’s just a hard, hard sea to navigate.”

Rachel:

Much like her brother, Rachel currently finds herself wrapped up in a world of drama. It was revealed to the audience recently that Rachel was the assailant who shot her uncle E.J., but due to the traumatic event, Rachel has surpressed this memory. Now Kristen, Rachel’s mother, found out and confessed to the shooting in order to protect her daughter.

Brady is unaware of any of this. Now Rachel is lashing out as a result of missing her mother.

Marstolf explained to soaps.com that Rachel is  “going to go through some rough water that no parent would want to see their kid go through.”

Family Man:

Martsolf reflected on his time on the soap opera, sharing “He is a family man, and his family is just being ripped apart right now. He just feels like a failed dad, because his kids don’t seem to be on an upward swing. You want to see your kids succeed, and right now, they’re both… The dynamics are just down, and Brady sees that as a reflection of himself.”

Martsolf history:

Martsolf joined Days of Our Lives in 2008 after his previous role, Ethan Crane on Passion, concluded with its cancellation.

Martsolf credits also include; Miss Behave, NCIS, and Smallville. He won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his performance on Days of Our Lives in 2014.

Days of Our Lives continues weekdays on Peacock.
