Days of our Lives and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alumni Lisa Rinna has announced the optioning of her first scripted series A Shoe Story.
Rinna’s development company Mrs. Production Inc. will be adapting the book originally written by Jane L. Rosen.
The original 2002 novel is officially described as, “Esme Nash is eager to leave her small town and begin her carefully planned post-grad life: a move to New York City, an apartment with her loving college boyfriend, and a fancy job at an art gallery. But when tragedy strikes, instead of heading to Manhattan, she returns home to care for her ailing father, leaving every bit of her dream behind.
Seven trying years later, Esme is offered a dog-sitting job in Greenwich Village by a mysterious stranger, giving her access to all of her long-buried hopes and dreams—as well as to an epic collection of designer shoes. Esme jumps at a second chance to step into the future she’s sure was meant to be hers.
As she retraces her steps, one pair of borrowed shoes at a time, making new friends and reconnecting with her old love, Esme tries on versions of herself she didn’t know existed. But the hazy August days and warm summer nights pass too quickly, and Esme must decide how much of the life she imagined still fits, and what—and who—is on the road ahead of her.”
Speaking to Deadlineabout the series Rinna shared, “I remember being the girl from a small town who dreamed about a bigger life in a bigger city. A Shoe Story captures the magic of that self-discovery journey with a bit of magical sparkle, a lot of heart and a ton of fabulous fashion. It fit me like a perfect pair of shoes.”
Meanwhile, Rosen shared, ““I’m thrilled that Lisa Rinna has optioned A Shoe Story. Her energy, creativity, and bold spirit are a perfect match for this project, and I can’t wait to see where she takes it.”
In addition to this adaptation, Rosen’s new book Songs of Summer will be released on May 20. The book is described as “Maggie May Wheeler is living her best life—at thirty, she has big plans for her vintage record shop and is about to be engaged to her childhood best friend. But when she stumbles across a letter she wrote to her future self when she was thirteen, she realizes it may not be enough. The letter ignites a desire to find her birth mother and discover where she really belongs.
Her search takes her to dreamy Fire Island, where her birth mother is a guest at a wedding. As Maggie spies on her biological family, she’s caught between diving into their chaotic lives and returning to her comfortable world. Things heat up when a charming local makes her an offer to crash the wedding as his date.
Is it the island’s magic, the whirlwind of the weekend, or the thrill of a fake beau that has her rethinking everything? Swept away by every love song she hears, Maggie must figure out where her heart truly lies.”
