Dead City’ Season 2 Sets Netflix Release Ahead of Season 3 Return

In a surprise late addition to the December lineup, Netflix has confirmed that The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 will be available to stream in the United States starting December 31st, adding to the many other AMC shows that have dropped on Netflix in the US and internationally.

While the second season of the hit spinoff was noticeably absent from the initial December release slate—leading many fans to fear a 2026 wait—it appears the streamer is gifting TWD fans one last treat to close out 2025.

Just a quick note that this article only applies to Netflix in the United States. While many international territories do stream the main Walking Dead series outside the US, all of the various spin-offs, such as Fear the Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon, and Dead City, are, for the moment at least, locked to Netflix US.

The eight-episode second season will land on Wednesday, December 31st, offering a perfect binge-watch for the holiday. This arrival follows the season’s initial run on AMC, which premiered back in May 2025.

For those who missed it, The Walking Dead: Dead City premiered in 2023 and is one of the many spin-offs of the main zombie apocalypse show. It brings back two favorites from the mothership series who are forced to work together despite being mortal enemies before. For season 2, if you thought the truce between Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) was shaky before, Season 2 shatters it completely.

The official synopsis teases a “growing war for control of Manhattan,” where Maggie and Negan find themselves trapped on opposite sides. The stakes are raised with the arrival of the New Babylon Federation, a powerful group seeking to restore order to the city’s chaos.

Season 2 saw its episode count bumped from 6 to 8, with those rolling out on AMC and AMC+ weekly beginning May 4th, 2025 and wrapping in late June.

Cast and New Faces

Alongside Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Gaius Charles returns as Marshal Perlie Armstrong, and Željko Ivanek is back as The Croat. Season 2 also injected fresh blood into the cast with some notable additions:

  • Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy) joins as Bruegel, a gang leader in Manhattan.
  • Dascha Polanco (Orange Is the New Black) stars as Major Lucia Narvaez.
  • Keir Gilchrist (Atypical) plays Benjamin Pierce.

What We Know About Season 3 of The Walking Dead: Dead City So Far

Season 3 has already been renewed, with production getting underway this September and wrapping recently, presumably for a 2026 premiere. In the third season, Maggie and Negan have to set aside their long-simmering feud to help build Manhattan’s first truly thriving community since the apocalypse. But as order in the city begins to fracture, both are forced to confront whether they’ve truly moved beyond their past, or if old scars and darker instincts will bring everything crashing down.

No word yet on whether future seasons, like season 3, will be part of Netflix’s lineup. Netflix extended its relationship with AMC this summer, but exact specifics beyond the shows already updated or debuting were largely kept under wraps.
