Disco Elysium studio took sci-fi survival game The Alters and made it fashion

25 June 20252 Mins Read

Disco Elysium developer ZA/UM doesn’t just make games. The company also has a fashion arm, ZA/UM Atelier, which has previously released a Disco Elysium-inspired range of clothing and accessories, including a bomber jacket, cargo pants, and a matching tie and pocket square set.

Now, ZA/UM Atelier is expanding its brand of “fiction made fabric” fashion with a new collection inspired by The Alters, the stylish sci-fi survival game from 11 bit studios (This War of Mine, Frostpunk). The first pieces from that line were revealed Wednesday, in tandem with Paris Fashion Week.

Two pieces are available for pre-order now: a track suit and a sheep-shaped shoulder bag that references The Alters’ Project Dolly space expedition (and Dolly the sheep, the first mammal cloned from an adult somatic cell). But there’s more to come, including a beautiful kimono-inspired jacket and a winter coat that makes the wearer look like they stepped out of a Mœbius book.

“The Alters is a game about who we are — and who we might’ve been. The way we present ourselves to the world – through clothing, expression, or even the smallest personal detail — is deeply tied to the lives we live and the choices we make,” said Tomasz Kisilewicz, The Alters game director at 11 bit studios, in a news release. “This collaboration with ZA/UM Atelier felt like a natural extension of that philosophy — an embodiment of identity through design. We can’t wait to see how our community responds to this fusion.”

“Each member of our collective has deep admiration for the creative work of 11 bit studios,” added Kristiina Ago, head of ZA/UM Atelier. “The Alters deep and sometimes painful journey of ‘self’ seemingly implored us to dive into the texture, technique, utility, and storytelling that define Jan Dolski’s personal style. Our Paris Fashion Week exhibition is the culmination of year-long design exploration. We are extremely honoured to have been entrusted with extending The Alters experience, ZA/UM Atelier’s first studio collaboration, into the world of fashion.”

“I think it’s fair to say that when we’re not making our own art, we are deeply admiring the creative genius of other studios,” said Mikk Metsniit, marketing principal, brand and partnerships, ZA/UM Studio. “Our hope is that The Alters is the first of many Atelier collaborations.”
