Does Masters of the Universe have a post-credits scene? Director explains what it means for a sequel

4 June 20264 Mins Read

Masters of the Universe has arrived. To pretty much everyone’s surprise, the new movie based on Mattel’s 44-year-old toyline is actually pretty great. Director Travis Knight’s summer blockbuster is a brilliant blend of heartfelt storytelling, epic sci-fi action, and stunning visuals (both practical and computer-generated). So now that He-Man (Nicholas Galitzine) has arrived on the big screen for the first time since the ’80s, what’s next? Will we get a Masters of the Universe 2? And what (if anything) does the Masters of the Universe post-credits scene reveal about the future of the franchise?

Polygon went straight to the source (Knight himself) to get all our Masters of the Universe questions answered. So grab your Sword of Power and let’s dive in.

[Ed. note: Spoilers ahead for the ending of Masters of the Universe.]

Will there be a Masters of the Universe 2?

While Masters of the Universe ends on a satisfying note, Knight leaves plenty of room for a sequel and even sets up one pivotal character from the cartoon (more on that in a minute). So it’s certainly possible, but nothing is confirmed yet. A lot is likely riding on the box office, which… isn’t looking particularly promising at the moment.

As for Knight, he’s eager to make a sequel, but also knows there are no guarantees.

Masters of the Universe 2 is “up to the world,” Knight says. “If the world loves the movie, and they see it, and they demand more, and if our partners at Amazon decide they want to do more, it would be a joy to continue telling stories within this universe.”

He adds: “Making this movie has been one of the most joyful experiences of my entire career, and the idea of doing it again with this incredible group of people and this cast fills me with no small amount of delight. But we’ll see. We put everything we had into this movie, and if nothing else comes of it, I’m proud of it. I love the movie. And if people want more, and they demand more, we’ll be happy to give them more.”

Does Masters of the Universe have a post-credits scene?

Yes. In a short tag at the end of the movie, we see another iconic franchise character: She-Ra!

“She-Ra has always been a very, very important part of Adam’s story and the lore of Masters of the Universe,” Knight confirms.

We only see Prince Adam/He-Man’s long-lost twin sister from behind and briefly in a profile shot. However, in an Instagram post on June 4, Australian model Lauren Saliu revealed that she plays the character in that brief post-credits scene and offered a better look at the costume.

However, it seems like Knight has someone else in mind for the sequel…

Who will play She-Ra in Masters of the Universe 2?

Whoever portrays She-Ra briefly in this movie likely won’t take on the role in a full-fledged sequel, but the director already has another actress in mind.

“I definitely know who I would cast as She-Ra if we were to be so lucky to be able to put her in a movie,” he hints. “I’m not going to say anything.”

Then again, Knight’s preferred choice may have some competition.

“Since she is Adam’s twin sister, Nick has been advocating for himself just wearing a blonde wig, which I’ve thought about,” Knight jokes. “I think there might be a better choice there though.”

Is Orko in Masters of the Universe?

This one is for all the Orko fans out there. (We see you.) And while we didn’t get a chance to ask Knight about the beloved alien magician from the dimension of Trolla, Polygon can confirm that he does indeed show up very briefly in the end of the movie. Orko appears as a CGI creation that looks very similar to the design He-Man fans know and love.

Hopefully, if we get Masters of the Universe 2, we’ll also get a lot more Orko — and She-Ra, too, of course.

Masters of the Universe is playing in theaters now.
