A new poster for Avengers: Doomsday was unveiled at Comic-Con Málaga on Oct. 3. Although it reveals nothing new about the film, it spotlights three characters we still don’t know much about. Right in time for Halloween, this poster has me wondering who the Latverian Witches really are.

Who could the Latverian Witches be in Avengers: Doomsday?

The new poster for Avengers: Doomsday shows Doctor Doom at the bottom of a grand staircase, presumably in Latveria. Behind him, he’s flanked by three witches, each of whom wears a different color. While people colloquially call these mysterious characters Latverian Witches, Marvel has otherwise revealed little about them.

These characters will seemingly help Doctor Doom execute his grand plan in Avengers: Doomsday, but it feels unlikely they are characters we’ve never met before. In fact, there are several characters who would make sense as the Latverian Witches.

One simply has to look to the magical corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a lot of sensible candidates emerge. Doctor Strange, Clea, and Scarlet Witch seem like obvious fits, especially as we don’t know what they have been up to since Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

I could see Bruce Banner as one, since Doctor Doom kidnaps him at the end of Avengers: Endgame Encore, and Sylvie from Loki would also make sense given her connections to the collapsing multiverse. It’s possible, if more unlikely, that Agatha All Along characters like Agatha Harkness, Jennifer Kale, or Death show up as Latverian Witches too.

Marvel Studios is unlikely to reveal who the Latverian Witches really are before the movie comes out, so I’ll definitely be thinking about this until Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18.
