Edmonton is getting its first-ever Renaissance faire next year

30 July 20263 Mins Read

Next year, Edmonton can anticipate the first local Renaissance faire to take over the city. This means swinging swords, saving princesses, and a whole bunch of dressing up in the spirit of the past.

If you haven’t been to or heard of a Renaissance faire, we’ll give you a quick rundown. Essentially, these faires are an outdoor public gathering that recreates a historical European village. More often than not, they feature live entertainment, artisan markets, and costumes (both for those working the fest and those attending).

Just this week, North of Ordinary Events, known for its spectacular markets, made an announcement. This organization is taking on the mantle of Edmonton’s first-ever Renaissance faire. While the post they made was not the official announcement, folks in the city can’t help but cheer and wait in anticipation for more information.

No more driving out to Vegreville or exploring faires in other provinces; Edmonton is going to be stacked with all the medieval energy you’ll need.

What can we expect from a Renaissance faire?

While we don’t know much about Edmonton’s specific faire other than the date, we can base its activities and events on other Alberta faires. No two faires are the same, but most are pretty similar in nature.

If you’ve already been seeking out Renaissance faires within Alberta, you’ll definitely be familiar with Vegreville’s. This spot is pretty spectacular, with this year being its third year of live jousting, armoured combat reenactment, crafty artisans, and so much more.

Usually, these events include a significant market with iron smiths, jewelers, leather workers, and other excellent craftmasters. In addition to that, folks really go all out with the costumes. Whether you’re dressing up as a knight, a princess, or a fairy godmother, you’re absolutely going to be welcome.

Waiting for more information about Edmonton’s rendition? No problem. You’re actually able to sign up for the organization’s mailing list for updates, as well as ticket reminders, to go straight to your inbox.

Keep your eyes out for any more medieval messages. While the Edmonton Ren Faire was just unofficially announced, there should be more details coming out soon.

We can’t wait for Edmonton to take a step back in time; it’s going to be an unforgettable faire, for sure.
