Ep 293: ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth.’ Plus, Phishing Scams on Social Media, Best TV Shows to Binge Watch

3 July 20252 Mins Read

LISTEN TO THE PLUGGED IN SHOW, EPISODE 293

In June of 1993, moviegoers were welcomed to a secluded island off the coast of Costa Rica. But this small island housed a big secret—big as in weighing several collective tons.

Those secrets? Dinosaurs!

I’m speaking, of course, about Jurassic Park, Steven Spielberg’s classic summer blockbuster based on the Michael Crichton-penned techno thriller. The dinos of Jurassic Park proved to be quite bankable, raking in a sauropod-sized load of cash to become the highest-grossing film released worldwide at the time. In the years since, filmmakers have returned to the Jurassic franchise several times, expanding the franchise’s bounds as seen in movies like Jurassic World and its sequels.

The next film in the franchise, Jurassic World: Rebirth, debuts on July 2. Will it be an exciting excursion fit for families? Or will the expected violence ex dinosauria make it unpalatable for younger viewers? Bob Hoose saw the film and joins the pod to tell us about it.

Then, we switch gears from Tyrannosaurs and Velociraptors to talk about another type of predator: social media scammers. Emily Tsiao, Jonathan McKee and Adam Holz hop on the podcast to chat about the sophisticated new phishing scams that, according to the Wall Street Journal, have duped over 80% of teens and young adults. We’ll tell you how you can protect yourself and your family from these scams.

What about you? Do you plan to see Jurassic World: Rebirth? Have you encountered some particularly nefarious phishing scams, on social media or elsewhere? Let us know through our Plugged In social channels—YouTube, Instagram and Facebook—or send us an email at [email protected].

And join us next week when we talk about the Man of Steel himself: Superman! With a new film coming out, we’ll discuss whether the character is too good for our cynical times. That and more next time on The Plugged In Show.
