Eva Mendes is showing her man some love.

Ryan Gosling just made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con to reveal himself as Marvel’s next Ghost Rider. Fans are stoked, and Mendes, 52, apparently saw it coming long ago.

The former actress took to social media pay tribute to Gosling, 45, following Marvel’s announcement in San Diego over the weekend. It’s been 15 years since they met on set of The Place Beyond the Pines, a movie that saw them playing co-parents in a complicated relationship.

Mendes cited the 2012 film in her Instagram post on Sunday, July 26 as proof that the Barbie actor has had what it takes to play Marvel’s Ghost Rider for years.

“From this intro only i thought ryan gosling can be a perfect casting for ghost rider role,” reads the title card on the thrilling clip she uploaded from The Place Beyond the Pines. Check it out below.

Fans have since flooded the post’s comments section to show their support for the celebrity couple. “Oh this is so cool ! I live how you are always supporting your husband. He is so lucky to have an amazing wife like you ❤️ I wish to see a reference to you on this movie even a picture I don’t know 🥰,” wrote one Instagram user, while another person commented, “Well this is very cool. Now if you could come back as Roxy that would be great thanks 😝🥰❤️.”

The latter comment refers to the caption of Mendes’ post, which she signed, “Love, Roxy.” One can assume she’s referring to Roxanne Simpson, the character she played in 2007’s Ghost Rider. Roxy was the love interest of Nicolas Cage, who portrayed the titular role.

With Gosling starring and Shawn Levy directing the new version, Marvel announced that Ghost Rider is set to release in 2028.
