Every Christopher Nolan film, ranked by the community • Journal • A Magazine • , Life in canada

28 July 20262 Mins Read

This is not to say Tenet is necessarily Nolan’s best film—and, according to the community, it’s far from it—but its direct invitation to first experience his cinema on a viscerally immersive level, before grasping it intellectually on narrative terms, is perhaps one key to the director’s continued success with audiences and critics around the world. That’s certainly been the case with The Odyssey, Nolan’s latest epic; it’s the first feature to be shot entirely on IMAX 70mm film and—as it continues to break records in theaters worldwide—its cast members are still marveling at its grand scope and sweep.

“We were on a glacier on Interstellar, and I thought that was the biggest thing I was ever going to do,” Matt Damon recently told ; though anybody who’s seen his performance as Odysseus, the legendary Greek king of Ithaca, knows that The Odyssey demanded even more of him. “It was like doing seven Interstellars,” Damon said. “Every location was just incredibly challenging.”

Speaking of Interstellar, Nolan’s emotionally resonant space odyssey occupies a unique place of honor in the community, as it’s currently both our most-watched film and the one most of our members name among their four favorite films. (For what it’s worth, The Odyssey has set some records of its own, becoming the quickest film to join our One Million Watched Club, and having just achieved the same milestone for two million. It’s also the 67th highest-rated film of all time by our members, as of this writing.)
