Enola Holmes 3 is officially on the way! After wrapping production in 2025, Netflix recently confirmed the highly anticipated third installment will arrive in Summer 2026. Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, and other fan favorites are back in their iconic roles. Here’s an updated preview of everything we know about Enola Holmes 3 as of early 2026.

As a quick recap, Enola Holmes is based on the Nancy Springer novels and was initially developed as a theatrical release for Warner Bros. Pictures before moving to Netflix due to the global events that transpired in 2020. The first movie, headlined by Millie Bobby Brown, largely followed the events of the books, while season 2 went a little off-piste and was more inspired by the source material. Harry Bradbeer directed both movies.

For a while, the first movie was featured in Netflix’s list of most-watched movies of all time, with 189.90 million hours watched in the first 28 days of release. The second movie, released in November 2022, featured in the global top 10s for four weeks after its release, picking up 158.03 million hours watched. According to the two Netflix engagement reports, Enola Holmes 1 was watched by the equivalent of 13.90 million people throughout 2023, and the sequel by 21 million.

Timeline of Enola Holmes 3 Development & Release Date

Soon after the second movie was released, rumors were everywhere about the development of a third movie, although none were substantiated. Collider was the first to report that Enola Holmes 3 was in the works. It came out during a conversation with Netflix’s then-head of film, Scott Stuber, with the executive expressing aspiration to do another film.

In August 2024, we learned that Netflix was developing a third movie. By November 2024, Deadline confirmed that the franchise would get a new director, with Philip Barantini taking the reins from Harry Bradbeer. Barantini is best known for his work on TV shows like Band of Brothers, Chernobyl, and, more recently, Boiling Point. Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials) returned to write the screenplay. The sequel is expected to skew darker than the two prior entries and aim for an older audience.

We can confirm that Barantini reteamed with cinematographer Matthew Lewis, who worked alongside him on Boiling Point. Gary Williamson served as the production designer. Aaron May and David Ridley serve as the composers.

Mary Parent, Ali Mendes, Joshua Grode, and Alex Garcia produced Enola Holmes 3 for Legendary Entertainment, with Millie Bobby Brown producing for Brown’s production company PCMA Productions. Jake Bongiovi and Isobel Richards executive-produced for PCMA alongside Michael Dreyer.

In January 2026, as part of Netflix’s “Next on Netflix 2026” / “What Next?” slate reveal, the streamer officially confirmed that Enola Holmes 3 will be released in Summer 2026, positioning the film as a major blockbuster tentpole for the season. The announcement also included several highly anticipated first-look images.

Principal photography for Enola Holmes 3 officially began on April 10, 2025, in the United Kingdom, long after  Millie Bobby Brown wrapped her year-long shoot on Stranger Things’ fifth and final season. According to reports from Screen Global Production, the production kicked off at Shepperton Studios in Surrey, England.

Netflix confirmed that production had begun, with a cast unveiling and a promotional video later that month.

Malta Filming Locations and Economic Impact

Following the UK studio shoot, the production relocated to the Mediterranean for the final weeks of filming. As detailed by Screen Malta and TVMnews, the crew spent over a month shooting across various iconic Maltese locations, including the historic capital of Valletta, the walled city of Mdina, Mellieħa, Ħ’Attard, and the Malta Film Studios. The production was a major economic boon for the island, benefiting from the Malta Film Commission’s Cash Rebate programme and employing over 360 Maltese and Gozitan crew members, according to reports. To celebrate the successful shoot, Malta Film Commissioner Johann Grech and the Minister for Culture, Owen Bonnici, visited the set in Mdina during the final days of filming.

According to Oh My Malta, lead actress Millie Bobby Brown was spotted around the town of Naxxar alongside her husband, Jake Bongiovi. Additionally, British actress Helena Bonham Carter, who reprises her role as Eudoria Holmes, took time off-set to visit the popular tourist attraction Popeye Village in Mellieħa.

Production Hiccups: The Food Poisoning Incident

Filming in the Mediterranean wasn’t entirely smooth sailing. As reported by IBTimes UK (citing initial reports from The Sun), production had to be temporarily halted in June 2025 due to a severe bout of food poisoning. Several cast and crew members, including Millie Bobby Brown, fell ill after consuming suspected contaminated seafood provided by on-set catering. Fortunately, the illness was short-lived; the affected individuals recovered quickly, and filming swiftly resumed, officially wrapping up on June 27, 2025.

Filming Wrap Posts

Filming officially wrapped on June 27, 2025. Director Philip Barantini shared an Instagram reel confirming the end of the shoot, while Millie Bobby Brown posted behind-the-scenes set photos with the fitting caption, “Case closed.”

What will happen in Enola Holmes 3?

Given that the movies no longer follow the blueprints of the book, we can look to the second movie’s ending for hints. With the conspiracy of the factory poison solved, Enola Holmes opened a London office for her new detective agency. Meanwhile, Sherlock gained a new roommate, Dr. John Watson, and his big nemesis, Moriarty, escaped—meaning she could play a major role going forward.

Netflix has provided the following official logline for the third film:

“Adventure chases detective Enola Holmes to Malta, where personal and professional dreams collide on a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before.”
