Evil Dead Burn ending and post-credits scenes explained

10 July 20263 Mins Read

Evil Dead Burn is now in theaters, delivering fans of the franchise more Deadites and gore to feast on. Directed by Sébastien Vaniček, the movie follows a dysfunctional family tormented by demons. It also sets the stage for what comes next for the franchise.

Preceded by Evil Dead (2013) and Evil Dead Rise (2023), the movies are all standalone stories, with the Deadites and the Book of the Dead serving as their connective tissue. Evil Dead Burn is the first to tie the films to the larger mythos of the franchise, featuring a couple of scenes that reference past characters and that lay out the movies’ possible future, which of course, depend on box office success and performance.

[Ed. note: Spoilers follow for Evil Dead Burn.]

Does Evil Dead Burn have a mid-credits scene?

The mid-credits scene appears shortly after Alice (Souhlia Yacoub) survives the onslaught of the demons by the skin of her teeth. After she’s taken out most of the possessed relatives of her terrible husband, she’s rescued by an ambulance. After she’s asked what happened, she lights a cigarette, and we cut to the credits. We then learn that one of the demons actually escaped.

The family’s grandmother (Maude Davey) is seen crawling down the road. It’s sunny out, suggesting that she’s been on the move for a while, and it appears that she’s the sole surviving member. She’s dragging herself through the road due to her missing leg, which she cut off in one of the film’s key set pieces.

A good Samaritan jumps out of her car as soon as she spots the woman, offering her help. The grandmother hides her terrifying Deadite face, playing the victim, until the woman turns away. She then attacks, spreading the curse further.

Does Evil Dead Burn have a post-credits sequence?

Evil Dead Burn has not one, but two post-credits scenes! The last one is the most important when it comes to the future of the franchise, reintroducing one of the franchise’s most memorable characters.

The scene takes us back to the funeral home, where Will’s (George Pullar) family hosted his service. It follows the funeral worker and her daughter as they clean up and organize the home. The two enter a room with some urns, and the woman explains that some of the ashes are never picked up by the families. She leaves, and her daughter steps closer to them to read some names out loud.

“Ellie Bixler,” she says, prompting a flickering from the fluorescent lights. The little girl looks into the mirror and sees Bixler in the reflection, the protagonist and antagonist of Evil Dead Rise, in her pre-Deadite form. When the girl touches the mirror, Bixler transforms into her demonic form, slicing the girl’s neck and killing her.

“Mommy’s back,” she says. Now the movie ends for real.

When’s the next Evil Dead movie coming out?

The new Evil Dead movie is scheduled for 2028 and is called Evil Dead Wrath. The project is written and directed by Francis Gallupi, who previously directed the Neo-Western The Last Stop in Yuma County.

Earlier this year, Robert Tapert, one of the franchise’s producers, revealed that Wrath is a prequel, set before most of the Evil Dead stories. This is yet another great departure,” he said in an interview with Dread Central. “It predates everything. It takes place in 1972.”

The film has wrapped production and is scheduled for release on April 7, 2028. The cast includes Charlotte Hope, Jessica McNamee, Zach Gilford, Josh Helman, Ella Newton, Elizabeth Cullen, and Ella Oliphant.
