While some gamers challenge themselves to speedrunning a game or trying to complete a no hit run, others shoot for the opposite direction. YouTuber ymfah has a few “all hit” playthroughs of challenging games on their channel, in which they welcome all the damage from enemies, and the latest they’ve taken on is Game of the Year contender Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
They beat the game without dodging, parrying, jump dodging, or gradient countering — essentially, every defensive option the game provides players, ymfah ignored. On the game’s hardest difficulty, too.
As ymfah outlines early on in the playthrough, parrying enemy attacks gives your characters AP, which are then consumed to unleash powerful skills. Not parrying means fewer high-damage-dealing skills, locking ymfah into a “vicious” cycle of dealing less damage while taking the most damage possible from enemies. That’s rough, buddy.
Just like in a regular playthrough, ymfah achieved victory in their all hit run by making good use of the game’s Pictos and Lumina systems, which give stat boosts and passive buffs. ymfah found great success in enhancing characters’ free aim attacks as well as stacking up damage multipliers “like it’s Balatro.”
Some exploits were used, like skipping the Évêque early on to farm up enough experience points so ymfah was strong enough to come back later and take it down. Still, finishing the game — and beating its tough-as-nails post-game bosses — is quite the impressive feat.
Check out the supercut of the all hit playthrough. Aside from being wildly entertaining, there are some good tips for builds and strategies in there for your next Clair Obscur playthrough (all hit or otherwise).
