You’ve explored Alberta’s Rocky Mountains in all their glory — maybe you’ve even reached a peak! But what about the flip side?
Take your adventurous spirit underground with Canmore Cave Tours, led by a team of adventurers who have been exploring the area since 1992. Whether you’re planning a unique weekend getaway or seeking an out-of-the-box outdoor experience, Canmore Cave Tours promises trading in bad weather, long lines, and big crowds for an adventure you’ll never forget.
While it’s not an activity for the claustrophobic, don’t worry — you won’t be doing anything as intense as those scary caving videos that occasionally pop up on your TikTok for-you page (no? Just my algorithm?). You’ll be dressed head-to-toe in high-quality caving gear and teamed up with an experienced cave guide to lead you through the undeveloped natural cave.
The land down under
The Adventure Tour is suitable for ages 12 and up, and lasts about six hours, with four hours in the cave. You’ll have plenty of time to explore passages like the Laundry Chute and do an 18m rappel. If you don’t want to spend quite that much time underground, the Explorer Tour is suitable for ages 10 and up and is four and a half hours, with two and a half hours in the cave.
You’ll also get to spot ancient bones and unique formations, giving you an entirely new appreciation for what you can’t see above ground. Whichever tour you embark on, you’re sure to make incredible memories and maybe even conquer a few fears in the process.
And if your foray into the cave turns into an itch for more, you’re in luck: Canmore Cave Tours also offers caving courses for horizontal caving, vertical caving, and expedition team skills.
Because the cave always sits at five degrees Celsius, tours always run rain or shine. Good luck! I decidedly won’t see you there, but I love that journey for you.
Where: Grotto Mountain, Canmore
