Explore the dark history of Calgary’s East Village neighbourhood on this walking tour

East Village is known as a sprawling and bustling city centre. But this community is hiding a dark secret or two in its twisted history.

Step into the shadows of one of Calgary’s oldest neighbourhoods with this walking tour, exploring some of the lesser-known stories behind the city’s first red-light district.

In the historical East Village, brothels, bootleggers and backroom deals once shaped the streets.

You’re bound to discover a thing or two you haven’t heard before on this chilling walking tour.

What to expect

The hidden corners of East Village’s history in Calgary are revealed in this walking tour held and hosted by The Confluence.

But it’s not the history you learned in school — it’s one that was meant to stay hidden, with stories of brothels and bootleggers shaping the dark past of our prairie city.

You’ll begin the evening with a drink and hors d’oeuvres at The Confluence before taking off on a 90-minute tour packed full of sordid tales and mysterious historical events.

A stop is also scheduled at the King Eddy Hotel with a specially crafted cocktail and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.

East Village was once a town of backroom deals and shady shenanigans. You’ll learn about all of it on this guided tour that’ll both entice and entertain.

Bring your curiosity and an open mind to this tour that’s sure to lift the veil on this contemporary urban neighbourhood. We can’t wait!
