F1® The Movie’s Surprisingly Empty Message, Best TV Shows to Binge Watch

26 August 20251 Min Read

In a summer of sequels, reboots and remakes, F1® The Movie was one of the few truly original films to break out. The Formula 1® flick has raced its way to $600 million worldwide, outpacing other blockbusters such as The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

Despite some content concerns, in my review for F1® The Movie, I called it a “visually stunning, pulse-pounding racing film that also packs in a propulsive plot and compelling characters.” The movie contains plenty of positive elements: Characters embody loyalty, mentorship and self-sacrifice. Teamwork and camaraderie are celebrated.

But under the film’s sleek, shiny hood, I found its message to be quite … empty. Surprisingly so.

With that in mind, and with the summer movie season approaching the checkered flag, I roped Paul Asay into taking another look at F1® The Movie. We chat about why the film’s underlying message might have felt so jarringly weak and how it contrasts with a Christian worldview.

Check out our conversation below. I hope you enjoy it!
