Fall in Calgary: When it starts, weather outlook, and fun things to do in the city

29 August 20253 Mins Read

Is fall the best season? I sure think so. With the return of sweater weather, changing leaves, and a bit of pumpkin spice, autumn in Calgary is filled to the brim with everything nice.

From important dates to fun activities, here’s everything you need to know about the impending season.

When does fall 2025 start?

Don’t let any yellow leaves fool you — we’re still technically in summer until the Autumnal Equinox on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025. Days have already been getting shorter since the summer solstice back in June, but after nearly equal hours of day and night on the equinox, you can expect more darkness than light in the coming months.

When does Daylight Saving Time end in 2025?

Daylight Saving Time Ends on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025, when clocks are turned back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunrise and sunset will be about an hour earlier than the day before, which means you can expect more light in the morning and less in the evening. It may be a bit of an adjustment, but that extra hour of sleep sure is nice.

Fun fact: Saskatchewan, Yukon, and certain regions of B.C., Quebec, Ontario, and Nunavut don’t acknowledge Daylight Saving Time and keep their clocks the same year-round. Something to keep in mind for any long-distance correspondence!

What will the weather be like?

The Old Farmers’ Almanac predicts a generally warm September, with an average temperature of 12°C – one degree above the seasonal average. Good news: winter is expected to be warmer than normal, with above-normal precipitation and below-normal snowfall. Bad news: the weather in Calgary can change at the drop of a hat, so it’s best not to take too hang too much hope on long-term forecasts.

Fun things to do this fall

There’s no shortage of fun fall festivities happening in Calgary over the next few months. Here are a few to put on your radar!
