Famed ’90s Alt-Rock Band to Release Long-Lost Songs for Record Store Day

6 February 20263 Mins Read

For Weezer fans, the band’s early years have long carried a special significance. Now, a newly discovered set of recordings from that period is finally being released. The band has announced 1192, a collection of Weezer’s earliest studio sessions, arriving as a limited vinyl release for Record Store Day 2026 on April 18.

The album takes its name from November 1992, when the recordings were first made. Founding bassist Matt Sharpuncovered the material while reviewing a collection of ‘lost-album’ master tapes from his archives. Among them was a multi-track reel of analog tape that turned out to contain Weezer’s very first studio sessions, recordings that ultimately helped the band secure their record deal ahead of their 1994 self-titled debut, commonly known as the Blue Album.

1192 features the band’s original lineup: Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Matt Sharp, and guitarist Jason Cropper. That configuration existed briefly but played a crucial role in shaping Weezer’s earliest sound. The sessions capture early versions of songs that would later become mainstays of the band’s catalog, including ‘Say It Ain’t So,’ ‘Undone (The Sweater Song),’ ‘No One Else,’ and ‘Surf Wax America.’

Sharp approached the project as a standalone release. He reunited with producerJoe Chiccarelli to remix the recordings from tape to vinyl using a fully analog process. The work was completed at EastWest Studios in Los Angeles, a space known for hosting historic sessions by artists such as the Beach Boys and Frank Sinatra. The goal, according to the release notes, was to preserve the original intent and energy of the performances while honoring the recording technology of the era.

The resulting album presents Weezer in a much more raw form than fans are used to. Several tracks appear in multiple versions, including alternate vocal-and-guitar mixes and an acoustic take on “Undone,” offering a look at how the songs evolved.

Here’s full tracklist:

Side One
01. No One Else – Take 1 (1192 Mix)
02. Say It Ain’t So -Take 2 (1192 Mix)
03. Undone – The Sweater Song (1192 Acoustic Mix)
04. The World Has Turned And Left Me Here (1192 Mix)
05. Surf Wax America (1192 Mix)

07. The World Has Turned And Left Me Here (1192 Vocal and Guitar Mix)
08. Undone – The Sweater Song (1192 Band Mix)
09. No One Else – Take 2 (1192 Mix)
10. Say It Ain’t So – Take 1 (1192 Mix))

Only 3,000 copies of 1192 will be pressed as a Record Store Day “RSD First” release. 1192 will be available at participating independent record stores on April 18.
