Fans React to Stunning Performance From 'Most Underrated Guitarist Ever'

15 October 20253 Mins Read

That headline is a big statement, I know, and there are plenty of contenders for the best guitarist in music.

The guitar canon is a massive and sweeping thing. Spanning genres, eras, and different styles, people will always debate who the greats of the iconic instrument are. A lot of names typically tend to pop up. Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix are a few, or my personal favorite, David Gilmore. These are all fair choices for the top spot, but what about those players who slip under the radar?

For obvious reasons, people tend to favor the flashier guitarists. Those who stand out in their respective bands and define the performance with shredding and showmanship. It’s no wonder so many of these players end up being so revered, but what can be said for those who sit back, and let the parts support the song? I think someone who perfectly fits that role is the legendary Lindsey Buckingham.

Buckingham is not the original guitarist of Fleetwood Mac. He actually arrived well into the band’s career, which is notorious for its line-up changes. Buckingham was a part of the sonic transition from blues rock to a more mainstream classic rock sound that the band really became known for, especially with their classic album, “Rumors.”

The album features classic after classic, but the one that stood out to fans last week on Buckingham’s social media was the song “Never Going Back Again.”

The song is a pretty tricky one to execute properly on the instrument. Fingerpicking is certainly a lot more involved then typical riff-style parts played with just a pick, and this part is especially layered. Nevertheless, Buckingham goes through it with incredible beauty and grace. There’s a reason this track is one of the most remembered from this album. It’s a beautiful part and Buckingham hasn’t lost any pace on it.

Fans jumped to the comments to leave their impressed reactions, and called to see Buckingham recognized for the amazing guitarist he is.

“They couldn’t replace him with 2 guitarists.”

“The amount of history this man has is incredible.”

“One of the most pure guitarists, and doesn’t get the credit he deserves.”

“The most underrated guitarist ever.”

Another said, “Lindsey makes the guitar sing ❤”

Buckingham certainly makes a case for himself with this timeless performance. Here’s to more great work from the rock legend!
